Position description

The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology invites applications for a full-time academic position in the Assistant Adjunct or Assistant In-Residence Professor series. This is largely a grant-supported position. Faculty in the In-Residence series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service. Faculty in the Adjunct series are expected to engage in research or other creative work, participate in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.

The successful candidate should have research interests aimed at elucidating molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular function in health and disease, using multiple approaches, that may include electrophysiology (cellular or organ-level), excitation-contraction coupling, biochemistry, molecular biology and computational modeling.

The incumbent will be expected to engage in grant-supported collaborative studies with others in the department, in which cardiovascular and neuroscience are main themes. This research should include team-based and multi-disciplinary studies at the intersection of physiology, biophysics, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and computer modeling, enabling a wide range of possible collaborations and high-level research training for students with diverse backgrounds.

This recruitment is conducted at this assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Candidate must possess a Ph.D. degree and at least four years of productive postdoctoral research experience.

* A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as a teacher, evidenced by teaching experience with undergrad, graduate or medical students and/or postdocs.

* The ability to independently carry out successful, extramurally funded research, with evidence of substantial leadership in research publications and grant funding.

* At least 5 years experience in team-based and multi-disciplinary work at the intersection of physiology, biophysics, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and computer modeling, enabling high-level research training for students with diverse backgrounds.

* A high level of expertise in one or more quantitative methods in cardiovascular research (e.g. patch-clamp electrophysiology, confocal/super-resolution microscopy, optical mapping, biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular signaling, computational modeling).

* A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues of various backgrounds.

* Ability to adhere to policies and procedures, with some leadership abilities.

* Ability to teach and contribute to University service, as required for all faculty.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

* At least 5 years of experience in research centered in biomedical/pharmacological significance that can lead to better understanding of mechanisms regulating cardiovascular function in health and disease, including diabetes, hypertension, heart failure or arrhythmias.

* At least a 5-year record with evidence of excellence, creativity and initiative in research which establishes a strong potential to build a vigorous and competitive research program.
