HJF is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II to provide a full range of pharmacy technical support to the Pharmacist surrounding Investigational Drug Service Pharmacy. Handle investigational agents for research studies and assist in major research projects.

This position will be in support of USU Operations.

  • Evaluate physician medication orders for duplication, usual dose, formulary or protocol status and provides for initial administrative and clinical screen. Handle some questions from less experienced Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Prepare, package, compound and label oral and parenteral pharmaceutical products for both FDA approved, as well as investigational agents.
  • Provide protocol information regarding investigational agents to physicians and nurses.
  • Provide drug information regarding the stability of extemporaneously compounded oral and parenteral medication, usual doses, drug availability, strength and concentration.
  • Maintain automated and/or manual records in accordance with policies and procedures. When necessary, review and suggest changes to pharmacy procedures.
  • Ensure that pharmacy supplies are properly stocked and maintained under supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • High School Degree or GED required, Vocational/Technical Degree or Associate's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Skills: Well versed in pharmaceutical calculations, medication identification, pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures and sterile product preparation procedures.
  • Technical Knowledge: Pharmacy terminology, knowledge of common intravenous drug stability and compatibility information, knowledge of procedures and techniques for the care, storage and packaging of pharmaceuticals and for filling outpatient prescriptions.
  • Customer Service: Ability to interact professionally and courteously with patients, prescribers, and colleagues.
  • Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in handling medications, documentation, and patient information to prevent errors.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve basic and more advanced issues related to prescriptions.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing workloads and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ethical Conduct: Demonstrate integrity and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills and strong knowledge of pharmacy software systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Health career Association (NHA) preferred or required based on state regulations.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Association Sterile Compounding Certification (or equivalent) required.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Association Chemotherapy Certification (or equivalent) highly desired.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a hospital/pharmacy setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $22.16-$30.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
