Position Summary

The Diagnostic Radiology Clinical Nurse provides specialized nursing care to oncology patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. This role ensures safe, compassionate, and high-quality care through clinical expertise, patient advocacy, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team including radiologists, technologists, oncologists, and other healthcare professionals. The nurse is responsible for patient assessment, education, sedation monitoring, procedure preparation, and post-procedure recovery in a high-acuity, technology-driven environment. This opportunity is for full-time, 10-hour shifts (4 shifts per week), and designated for the day shift (variable start times - earliest 5:30am, latest 9:00am start time). The department is open Monday-Saturday.Call is required for this position.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and pediatric oncology patients during diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures (CT, MRI, PET, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy).

  • Assess patients pre-procedure for clinical stability, reviewing labs, medications, and allergies.

  • Administer moderate sedation and monitor patients per hospital sedation policy.

  • Manage vascular access devices (e.g., peripheral IVs, PICCs, ports) including insertion, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Respond promptly to changes in patient condition; initiate emergency interventions as needed.

  • Educate patients and families about imaging procedures, sedation, and post-procedure care.

  • Provide emotional support to patients coping with cancer diagnosis and treatment.

  • Coordinate with radiologists, technologists, and transport teams to ensure efficient patient flow.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and safety huddles.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of radiology nursing policies and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Participate in audits, data collection, and quality reporting related to radiology nursing practice.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in Nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience (ER/ICU/IR experience preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • ACLS through American Heart Association
  • PALS through American Heart Association
