Access & Operations:
Access & Operations is responsible for the opening, closing, and security of our three buildings on the main campus. We perform general maintenance and some custodial services. We coordinate with campus entities and outside contractors, manage space projects, and provide support for library events. In addition, we are responsible for stacks management, reserves, printing services, equipment circulation, and the circulation desks. We facilitate access to the educational and research resources needed by our users through our Interlibrary Loan and Scanning services and provide multimedia expertise, services, and content at the Multimedia Resources Center (MRC). We take pride in being the faces of the libraries for people who visit in person to use our spaces and services and strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience.


Your Role on the Team

Oversees Circulation, Reserves, Stacks, and Study Center operations. Supervises students and Library Assistants who are performing routine and / or largely operational duties as part of the overall operations of a library. Responsible for day-to-day operations. Provides technical guidance and resolves issues such as general communications and complaints including billing disputes, processing materials, and bibliographic checking.

  • General knowledge of library practices and procedures; problem solving skills.
  • Effective supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated experience administering employee performance evaluations, including establishing performance expectations, assessing employee performance, providing constructive feedback, documenting performance outcomes, and developing performance improvement and professional development plans.
  • Working knowledge of library circulation systems.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Superior ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with supervisors, staff, and patrons.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations in a professional manner following the Libraries' emergency and security procedures.
  • Skills to prepare and monitor budgetary documents.
  • Experience in developing, writing, and implementing operational procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Effective organizational skills to meet deadlines and satisfy priorities by directing workflow of staff performing multiple functions.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to support inclusiveness within UC Irvine Libraries and the campus.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3-5 yearsWorking at a circulation desk in an academic or public library.
  • 1-3 yearsSupervisory experience.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$55,400- $$74,600 (Annual).
