Overview
Responsible for playing a key role in supporting the development, preparation, administration of the Corporate Commercial Operations reporting monthly / quarterly operational and all financial performance metrics as well as assist with the annual planning process. Understands the business needs of the Insurance Operations Unit and partners with other areas (Actuarial, Financial Planning, BSU, etc) to support those needs. Responsible for the accurate, timely and relevant business analysis of special projects (i.e., headcount reporting, staffing model development, process improvement surveys, productivity models etc.). All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Works with Commercial Lines Operations Management team to assist with the preparation, analysis and distribution of the Commercial Lines Operations annual planning process (premium plans, territory reviews & operational expense management) and conducts tracking and variance analysis when appropriate.
- Acts as a liaison with Actuarial, Financial Planning, Business Intelligence, BSU and other units in the coordination & monitor of special projects (i.e. UW Incentive Plans, Business Objectives, Matrix, AMS Contest) for Commercial Lines Operations.
- Partner with business and functional leaders to identify and communicate key strategies, initiatives, opportunities, metrics and goals (short term / long term) that effectively drive and improve business performance. Assist with the creation of resources to monitor / track results.
- Support business leader's efforts to improve performance by partnering in the creation of Statement of Work templates and other projections utilized by the Field to increase revenue and / or reduce costs.
- Establish a strong relationship with Insurance Operations Management, Actuarial, Financial Planning, BSU and peers.
- Partner with the Management team to develop, design and prepare documentation to support monthly & quarterly business requirements (ie. Regional Scorecard / Commercial Lines Scorecards). Continually evaluate processes for ways to automate or improve.
- Design and conduct other complex ad-hoc analysis in support of key business objectives, as necessary
Qualifications
Knowledge and Requirements
- An understanding of financial and accounting concepts and modeling techniques. Must have strong financial aptitude and acumen. Ability to identify, interpret and translate business analytics into successful and profitable business strategies. Must demonstrate the ability to analyze problems, probe facts, identify and question assumptions and analyze issues from different perspective. Good customer service, networking and relationship building skills. Highly motivated self-starter with an ability to effectively manage a range of projects in an environment with changing priorities. Exhibit flexibility working in a fast-paced environment requiring quick response. Must be detail-oriented. Ability to design, build and manage financial models. Strong PC skills (i.e., excel, access, macros, lookup formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
Education and Experience
- College degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred.
- 3+ years experience in the insurance industry analyzing business needs, industry trends and best practice.
- 3+ years experience in budgeting and planning
- 1+ years experience assisting with the implementation of projects.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
Pay Range
USD $76,000.00 - USD $98,000.00 /Yr.
