This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. The Principal, Manufacturing Science & Technology Engineering (Science/Tech/Engineering Path), is primarily responsible for leading technical projects and serving as the process and product subject matter expert throughout the product lifecycle. This role drives innovation, ensures regulatory compliance, and continuously improves manufacturing performance through strong technical leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration. Specifics Include:
Manage individual technical and cross-functional projects, applying specialized knowledge to achieve objectives and drive innovation Maintain end-to-end ("door to door") oversight of assigned product(s) and associated manufacturing processes across the entire commercial lifecycle, from development through commercialization and sustainment Serve as the primary technical contact with R&D as the plant Sustaining Scientist, ensuring alignment and knowledge continuity Develop, implement, and evaluate new production materials, equipment, and technologies prior to mass production Conduct manufacturing research and development to resolve production cost, efficiency, and quality challenges, including technical feasibility assessments Maintain deep knowledge of product history, process performance, and validation state; ensure products remain in a continuous state of validation Evaluate project capacity to support process design and development, and establish standardized manufacturing procedures Monitor, analyze, and control critical process variables; identify issues and initiate appropriate corrective and preventive actions Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize utilization of labor, raw materials, and equipment Evaluate production processes to reduce overall costs and define/maintain product quality standards Oversee implementation of systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards, including GxP requirements Critically review operations to improve regulatory compliance, aseptic techniques, product quality, and overall productivity Arrange equipment, tools, and resources to support efficient production operations Select and collaborate with vendors to define product specifications and ensure timely, cost-effective delivery Liaise with Global Product Steward and cross-functional partners (R&D, Quality, Commercial, Operations) to enhance process capability and maintain product knowledge Determine and communicate priorities and timelines across potentially competing initiatives Make data-driven operational decisions that directly impact project performance, compliance, and innovation outcomes Develop and align team and project goals with departmental and organizational objectives; ensure clear and consistent communication of priorities Maintain awareness of industry advancements and state-of-the-art technologies; recommend and implement improvements as appropriate Prepare technical analyses and provide insights to site leadership to support strategic decision-making Ensure rigorous documentation, training completion, and adherence to SOPs and regulatory requirements Commit to continuous improvement and maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs) The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English 5 Years of Relevant Experience Work hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM EST - 5:00 PM EST, flexibility required based on business needs.
