Job Description

The WIC Assistant is often the first point of contact for participants and families and plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service within the WIC program. This position supports clinic operations by scheduling appointments, determining eligibility, maintaining participant records, and ensuring participants receive timely and accurate services. The WIC Assistant helps create a welcoming environment while supporting the health and well-being of women, infants, and children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome participants and provide excellent customer service in person and by phone.

  • Schedule and manage appointments, including follow-up for missed appointments and referrals.

  • Screen new participants and collect information to determine WIC eligibility.

  • Maintain accurate participant records and update information in the State WIC database.

  • Explain WIC benefits and issue food instruments according to program guidelines.

  • Assist with clinic flow, participant communications, and administrative support functions.

  • Collaborate with WIC team members to ensure efficient clinic operations and positive participant experiences.

  • Travel to other WIC clinic locations as needed to provide coverage.

  • Support compliance with agency, state, and federal policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with participants, coworkers, and community partners.

  • Basic computer skills and data entry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual competency.
