Description

Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, a division of Macmillan Publishers, is seeking an Associate Director, Marketing, to manage the middle-grade and graphic novel marketing team, lead overall list strategy for both categories, and work directly with the team on title-specific marketing campaigns.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Marketing, the Associate Director will ensure that category strategies, plans, and the distribution of the budget meet key sales and leadership objectives, and drive book discovery with best-in-industry campaigns. This role will supervise the middle-grade and graphic novel marketing team, including three direct reports. The ideal candidate will be strategic and creative and must possess strong leadership, project management, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What You'll Do:



  • Manage and mentor the marketing team responsible for MCPG's middle-grade and graphic novel lists, a team of three marketers, with regular goal check-ins and weekly 1:1 meetings.
  • Lead marketing strategy for these categories, including high-profile frontlist and backlist titles from award-winning, bestselling, and celebrity authors.
  • Conceive, develop, and execute select key marketing campaigns, from strategy to performance analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (editorial, publicity, sales, design, digital, etc.) to align marketing strategies and ensure successful execution.
  • Work closely with the sales team to provide support in the form of materials, ideas, communication about developments with our books, retail opportunities, and more.
  • Communicate detailed campaign updates, strategic plans, and performance analytics directly to executive leadership, authors/agents, editors, sales, central teams, etc.
  • Present campaigns and team strategies formally in key meetings.
  • Oversee and manage category marketing budgets.
  • Participate in planning and preparation for marketing, sales, title-specific, acquisition, and central marketing meetings.
  • Actively seek innovative, show-stopping campaign elements as part of creating and honing category and title-specific strategies-new tools, platforms, partners, outlets, best practices, marketing trends, etc.


What You'll Bring:



  • 8+ years of marketing experience in children's book publishing or a related field (previous title marketing experience strongly preferred).
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills to manage and adapt priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator with excellent presentation skills to engage with various internal and external stakeholders, including authors and agents.
  • Proven leadership skills and a history of managing direct reports.
  • Experience creating compelling marketing campaigns.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the children's book marketing landscape.
  • Expert understanding of social media and metadata best practices and how they apply to books as marketing and sales tools.
  • Experience managing and tracking title campaign budgets.
  • Familiarity with Google Business Suite or Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with project management tools like Airtable, Hive, and/or Basecamp, and marketing analytics tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proactively and effectively communicate across departments and seniority levels.
  • Commitment to valuing diverse perspectives and creating an inclusive work environment.
  • Management experience (at least one direct report).
  • College degree or equivalent work experience.


The salary range for this role is $95,000,000-$110,000.

This position is classified as remote but is tied to our New York, NY office located at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
