Position Summary
Performs routine and complex IR procedures on a scheduled and emergency basis following departmental QC/Exam Data Integrity Workflow Expectations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Examinations/Procedures

  • Reviews and evaluates requisitions for IR procedures.
  • Confirms procedure specific information with IR physician as well as the necessary imaging equipment, software programs, therapeutic equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to optimize image quality and reduce patient radiation exposure. (ALARA).
  • Complies with aseptic techniques in specimen collection and handling.
  • Prepares procedure tray, imaging parameters, therapeutic equipment and supplies per physician protocol.
  • Responsible for patient positioning, sterile prep and draping.
  • Circulates room during procedures to assist with retrieving and opening surgical items and equipment.
  • Performs the role of physician second scrub if required.
  • Follows Departmental QC/Exam Data Integrity Workflow Expectations.
  • Practices High Reliability Communication techniques.

2. Patient/Family Relations

  • Responds to the uniqueness and clinical condition of the patient.
  • Creates a supportive environment for the patient and the family.
  • Collaborates with IR team on patient procedure plan by assessing patients' physical and emotional status.

3. Equipment

  • Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions.

4.General

  • Participates in departmental and hospital meetings.
  • Complies with ETU.

5. Professional Development

  • Actively participates in IR simulation scenarios.
  • Completes all required competencies and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Furthers professional education and maintains knowledge of current regulations and standards, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Associates Degree, Allied Health

Experience
1 year of working as a Radiologic Technologist

Licensure/ Certifications

Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
BLS Certification

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
