Position Summary

ReNuke Services is seeking an experienced Lead Senior Radiological Control Technician (RCT) / ES&H Supervisor to support the decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) of the Western Area Radiological Laboratory (WARL). This individual will serve as the senior field radiological and environmental safety professional on the project, providing direct oversight of Senior Technicians and D&D Technicians while supporting the Field Project Manager in the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all project activities.

This is a working supervisory position and is expected to be in the field 100% of the time. The selected individual will actively perform radiological surveys, contamination assessments, characterization activities, release surveys, and final status survey support while simultaneously supervising field personnel and overseeing project ES&H performance. Administrative responsibilities are limited to required project documentation, survey records, daily reports, and regulatory compliance records.

The Lead Senior RCT / ES&H Supervisor serves as the primary field representative for radiological controls, industrial safety, work execution, technician oversight, and survey implementation associated with the decommissioning of the WARL laboratory. The facility consists of approximately 7,600 square feet of laboratory space including analytical laboratories, counting rooms, sample preparation areas, storage rooms, and support spaces requiring characterization, decontamination, waste disposition, and final release surveys.

This is a hands-on, working supervisory role. The selected individual will not function as an office-based supervisor but will serve as the lead field RCT and ES&H representative, personally performing radiological surveys, directing D&D activities, supervising field personnel, maintaining regulatory compliance, and providing continuous oversight of radiological and industrial safety conditions throughout project execution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Leadership and Field Supervision
*Serve as the lead field representative for radiological controls and ES&H oversight.
*Provide day-to-day supervision of Senior Technicians, D&D Technicians, subcontractors, and temporary personnel.
*Support the Field Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing daily work activities.
*Assign and monitor daily field activities to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
*Conduct daily pre-job briefings, toolbox meetings, ALARA reviews, and safety meetings.
*Maintain continuous field presence and direct oversight of ongoing D&D activities.
*Mentor and develop junior technicians while ensuring compliance with project procedures.
*Coordinate field resources, work sequencing, and schedule execution.
*Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or regulatory concerns are identified.
*Function as a Working Lead Senior RCT, actively performing radiological work while supervising personnel.

Radiological Survey and Characterization Responsibilities
*Personally perform and document radiological characterization surveys, contamination surveys, release surveys, exposure rate surveys, and final status survey activities.
*Operate portable radiation detection instrumentation for alpha, beta, gamma, and contamination monitoring.
*Conduct daily radiological surveys of work areas, equipment, waste containers, personnel access points, and transportation packages.
*Perform pre-job and post-job radiological surveys supporting decontamination and demolition activities.
*Conduct surveys of laboratory spaces, counting rooms, preparation rooms, storage areas, drains, sinks, work benches, fume hoods, equipment, piping systems, and facility structures scheduled for decommissioning.
*Review and interpret radiological survey data to support work planning and release decisions.
*Maintain survey maps, survey logs, instrument source checks, and calibration verification records.
*Support MARSSIM implementation and Final Status Survey (FSS) activities.
*Prepare survey documentation required for project turnover and license termination support.
*Provide continuous radiological coverage and troubleshooting during field operations.

Radiological Controls
*Ensure compliance with NRC regulations, site procedures, radiation protection programs, and project requirements.
*Verify implementation of radiological work permits (RWPs), contamination controls, and ALARA practices.
*Establish and maintain radiological boundaries, postings, and access controls.
*Monitor personnel dosimetry and exposure tracking requirements.
*Review radiological survey results and identify trends or emerging concerns.
*Provide technical guidance on contamination control methods and decontamination techniques.
*Support waste characterization and radiological release determinations.

ES&H Oversight
*Implement and enforce project Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) programs.
*Perform field safety inspections and behavioral safety observations.
*Ensure compliance with:
oOSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926
oHAZWOPER requirements
oLockout/Tagout (LOTO)
oConfined Space Entry
oRespiratory Protection
oHazard Communication
oFall Protection
oPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
*Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
*Develop and track corrective actions.
*Promote a strong safety culture and proactive hazard recognition.

D&D Operations Oversight
*Oversee and participate in decontamination and dismantlement activities involving:
oLaboratory equipment
oAnalytical instrumentation
oFume hoods
oCasework and laboratory benches
oContaminated piping and drain systems
oCounting equipment
oSample preparation systems
oStorage equipment and laboratory furnishings
*Verify work is performed in accordance with approved procedures and work packages.
*Coordinate packaging, characterization, and shipment of radioactive waste.
*Ensure proper segregation and management of radioactive, hazardous, and mixed waste streams.
*Support final facility release activities and project closeout.

Documentation and Reporting
*Maintain daily field reports and project logs.
*Review and approve technician documentation for accuracy and completeness.
*Maintain radiological survey records and safety inspection records.
*Support preparation of project status reports and schedule updates.
*Assist in preparation of final project turnover documentation.
*Ensure records meet NRC, client, and ReNuke quality requirements.
