Purpose of the Role

As a Principal Project Planner, you will play a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of complex projects by providing strategic planning, scheduling leadership, and project controls expertise across the project lifecycle.

This role is responsible for ensuring the development, integration, maintenance, and assurance of project schedules that support informed decision-making, effective risk management, and successful project execution. The Principal Project Planner serves as a recognized subject matter expert, providing technical leadership, guidance, and consultation to project teams while driving planning excellence and continuous improvement across projects and functions.

Working collaboratively with engineering, procurement, construction, project management, and customer stakeholders, this position contributes to Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes through disciplined project execution, integrated solutions, and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and assurance of integrated project schedules across complex and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee planning and scheduling activities to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with project objectives and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project execution schedules to verify completeness, logic, resource alignment, and overall schedule integrity.
  • Provide expert planning and scheduling guidance to project teams, supporting effective project controls, forecasting, progress measurement, and performance reporting.
  • Identify schedule risks, constraints, opportunities, and trends, recommending proactive mitigation and recovery strategies to support successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, engineering, procurement, construction, and customer representatives to ensure integrated planning approaches and alignment across project functions.
  • Support the development and implementation of planning standards, procedures, methodologies, tools, and best practices that enhance project performance and organizational capability.
  • Facilitate schedule reviews, planning workshops, progress assessments, and schedule risk evaluations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing to planning and scheduling personnel, fostering professional development and capability growth.
  • Support workforce planning activities, including participation in recruitment, onboarding, performance feedback, training, and capability development initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts through the identification and implementation of innovative planning approaches, digital solutions, and data-centric methodologies.
  • Assist in customer presentations, project reviews, and strategic planning discussions, acting as a trusted advisor on planning and scheduling matters.
  • Analyze complex project information to identify patterns, trends, and performance drivers, enabling informed business and project decisions.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, safety, quality, and sustainability across all planning activities.
  • Ensure planning practices support Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable change and creating long-term value for customers and communities.

Qualifications / Skill Set Education and Experience
  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in project planning, scheduling, project controls, or project delivery within the energy, chemicals, resources, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale, complex, and multidisciplinary projects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Recognized as a planning and scheduling specialist with the ability to provide expert consultation and technical leadership.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of project planning, scheduling, forecasting, progress measurement, and project controls methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project execution processes.
  • Expertise in schedule development, critical path analysis, schedule assurance, resource planning, and performance monitoring.
  • Advanced capability in project controls systems, planning software, reporting tools, and data management processes.
  • Ability to assess schedule quality, identify risks and opportunities, and develop practical recommendations that improve project outcomes.
  • Experience contributing to the development and enhancement of planning systems, processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information, identify trends, and support strategic decision-making.

  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, coaching, and guidance to planning and scheduling professionals.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build effective relationships across project teams, business functions, customers, and external partners.
