Job Overview:

The Specification Specialist supports product specification development for all High Liner Foods products across the United States and Canada. This role works cross-functionally with Product Development, Manufacturing, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Production, and Regulatory teams to create, update, and maintain accurate product specifications within the HLF Global Spec Management (GSM) system and external customer specification portals.

Essential Duties and responsibilities



  • Support the workflow process to create, update, and maintain HLF product specifications within the company-wide specification system. Specifications include raw materials, ingredients, packaging, work-in-progress, finished goods, and trade or sales specifications.
  • Manage assigned projects with a high degree of focus and urgency, aligned with company and departmental priorities.
  • Ensure specifications are consistent and compliant with internal procedures and regulatory expectations.
  • Support the innovation process by participating on new product development and product optimization teams as the specification function representative.
  • Identify and escalate challenges, data gaps, or inconsistencies by initiating and coordinating investigations with Product Management or Product Owners.
  • Provide specifications and technical information to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain and update external customer specification portals and databases with new or revised specification data, as appropriate.
  • Partner with external customers to support Requests for Proposal (RFPs), customer specification requests, and technical inquiries, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant information is provided.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects and tasks through successful completion.
  • Develop and maintain competency across all aspects of the specification process to provide cross-coverage (e.g., vacation coverage) and support priority initiatives.
  • Support non-conformance investigations and crisis management processes as the process owner of the specification system.
  • Identify opportunities for process and procedural improvements and support implementation of best practices.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Science or related field
  • Minimum 2- 3 years in Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Consumer Packaged Goods experience, specifications management, database administrator or equivalent.
  • Must be a highly organized team player with strong critical thinking skills and an acute attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Positive and self-starter attitude with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate complex regulatory and scientific issues in simple terms.
  • Proficient in MS Office Products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Genesis and PLM software.
  • Customer-focused, ensures our customers are at the forefront of decision making
  • Team player, enjoys the collaboration and coordination with peers and stakeholders


Salary Transparency: High Liner Foods' compensation offerings are founded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $60,000 - $65,000; the base pay is offered based on a variety of factors including geographical market location, and may vary depending on job grading practices, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity factors. As part of our total rewards offering, employees may be eligible to participate in an annual short-term incentive program subject to program eligibility requirements.
