Position Overview
| Essential Job Duties |
This position will assist in establishing a new research focus in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) in Construction Engineering and Management. Construction projects generate a significant amount of both structured and unstructured data that can be analyzed using advanced data analytic approaches to provide information for better decision-making and improved project performance. Construction sites generate a significant amount of documents (e.g., monthly reports, contracts, requests for information, change orders, etc.) as well as images (video and photo logs of a project's progression). These data can be processed using conventional statistical approaches as well as more sophisticated AI/ML techniques.
Duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):
1) conducting important research in the area of AI/ML for improving construction project performance through literature reviews, surveys and focus groups
2) summarizing these findings in scholarly publications
3) writing proposals
4) sharing this knowledge with the public at large

Background with the construction industry and knowledge in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Ph.D. in a construction-related field with demonstrated research experience in multimodal AI, computing, and related technologies. Candidates with a second degree, such as a master's degree, in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Analytics, or a closely related field are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in proposal writing and a strong publication record in top-tier journals are highly desirable. Self-motivated candidates who can work independently and collaboratively are preferred. |
