Position Summary:
The mission of Career & Professional Development (
CPD) is to empower Spartans to become career-ready from exploration to life beyond graduation. We accomplish this mission by providing data-informed guidance to help students discover career paths, develop transferable skills, and prepare for meaningful work and life; collaborating across campus to create a career ecosystem; and building trusted relationships with employers who believe in
UNCG talent.
Reports to the Associate Director for Career Development. The Associate Director manages the campus-wide strategy for student career development and supervises Assistant Directors and Graduate Assistants. The Associate Director reports to the director of
CPD.
The Graduate Marketing Assistant for Career Development works closely with CPD's marketing and communications efforts to increase student awareness of and engagement with career resources, programs, and services. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop skills in marketing strategy, content creation, and student supervision while contributing meaningfully to CPD's visibility and reach across the
UNCG campus.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Marketing Assistant Supervision (40%)
* Supervise and coordinate a team of student Marketing Assistants (1-2), supporting their day-to-day work, task assignments, and professional development.
* Set clear expectations and provide ongoing feedback to ensure content quality, brand consistency, and timely execution.
* Facilitate regular team check-ins to review content calendars, campaign progress, and priorities.
* Help student Marketing Assistants connect their work to broader career development goals and transferable skills.
* Collaborate with a designated full-time
CPD staff member to ensure alignment between marketing efforts and office priorities.
Marketing Strategy & Campaign Development (25%)
* Lead the development and execution of marketing campaigns that increase student awareness of
CPD services, events, and resources (e.g., career coaching, Handshake, workshops, career fairs).
* Build and maintain a content calendar that coordinates messaging across platforms and aligns with the academic calendar.
* Identify underserved student audiences and develop targeted outreach strategies to reach them (e.g., first-year students, graduate students, specific majors).
* Research marketing trends in higher education and career services to keep CPD's strategy current and effective.
* Assist with the creation and distribution of email newsletters and digital announcements to students and campus partners.
Marketing Strategy & Campaign Development (25%)
* Lead the development and execution of marketing campaigns that increase student awareness of
CPD services, events, and resources (e.g., career coaching, Handshake, workshops, career fairs).
* Build and maintain a content calendar that coordinates messaging across platforms and aligns with the academic calendar.
* Identify underserved student audiences and develop targeted outreach strategies to reach them (e.g., first-year students, graduate students, specific majors).
* Research marketing trends in higher education and career services to keep CPD's strategy current and effective.
* Assist with the creation and distribution of email newsletters and digital announcements to students and campus partners.
Brand, Analytics & Administrative Support (10%)
* Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) across social media and provide regular reports on what is working and where to adjust.
* Maintain brand consistency across all
CPD marketing materials, templates, and digital channels.
* Assist with operational tasks that support smooth marketing workflows and office communications.
Preferred Skills & Attributes:
* Genuine interest in marketing, communications, or digital media and a creative mindset.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for tone, grammar, and audience.
* Familiarity with major social media platforms, especially Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
* Experience with design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
* Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
* Experience in peer leadership, supervision, or team coordination is a plus but not required.
* Familiarity with social media analytics, scheduling tools, or email marketing platforms is a plus but not required.
Work Hours & Environment:
* Join a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive team of 10 professional staff members, 3 Graduate Assistants, and student employees.
* Receive mentorship, professional development, and hands-on experience across multiple areas of student affairs.
* Work closely with the Associate Director for Career Development to design a flexible schedule within our 8:00am-5:00pm business hours; occasional evening events may occur.
* Graduate Assistants enjoy a private office, laptop, and dual monitors.
