Job Description

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Office Support Assistant IV will greet visitors to the School of Graduate Studies; address inquiries of students, faculty, and staff or, if needed, direct them to the appropriate dean, program director, or program manager; review standard paperwork on behalf of SGS: organize and disseminate School of Graduate Studies announcements; and provide organizational office support for projects and programming to the Dean, Associate Dean, and program managers.
Qualified candidates will be committed to the mission of graduate education at UMKC, to providing a welcoming environment to visitors, to serving UMKC students, faculty, and staff graciously and efficiently on behalf of the School of Graduate Studies, and to treating inquiries and issues involving graduate students and faculty with utmost discretion.

Duties will include:

  • Staffing the SGS reception desk, greeting visitors, and responding to in-person, electronic, and phone inquiries about graduate issues, directing those inquiries to the proper SGS dean, program director, or program manager as needed
  • Maintaining the Dean's calendar
  • Organizing and Disseminating SGS Announcements and Maintaining the SGS Announcements webpage and signage
  • Assisting the SGS deans, program directors, and program managers in managing SGS correspondence with fellowship and grant applicants, award nominees, doctoral faculty applicants, the graduate program coordinators and directors, and UMKC faculty, graduate students, and staff serving on SGS award committees, subcommittees, and professional development events
  • Creating excel sheets documenting the content and progress of SGS fellowship and grant applications and award nominations and shared folders which review panels will use to evaluate applications and nominations
  • Reviewing and approving standard graduate paperwork on behalf of SGS
  • Providing support for the SGS Doctoral Hooding Recognitions, SGS Graduate Orientation, and annual 3MT/Community of Scholars competition
  • Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

* High school diploma
* Five years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's or Master's degree
* Facility with MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint
* Experience using office management and meeting tools such as MS Outlook, MS Teams, and Zoom
* Experience with classroom/meeting room technology
* Five years of experience supporting staff and faculty in education or a related field

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range will start at $17.50 per hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
