Engineer I Overview Engineer Class 1 is the highest-level engineering position responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the hotel's physical plant, building systems, equipment, and guest facilities. This position serves as a senior technical authority and working leader within the Engineering Department. The Class 1 Engineer is expected to independently diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life-safety, building, and equipment issues; lead major repairs and preventive-maintenance activities; assist in directing engineering staff; and ensure the hotel operates to the highest standards of safety, reliability, guest comfort, regulatory compliance, and energy efficiency. Engineer Class 1 must demonstrate advanced technical knowledge, sound judgment, leadership ability, and the capability to respond effectively to emergencies and critical building-system failures. Pay Rate: $24 - $28 per hour, based on experience Responsibilities Engineering Operations: * Maintain and operate hotel mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, water, fire/life-safety, and building systems. * Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance. * Identify the root cause of equipment and building-system failures and implement appropriate corrective action. * Monitor critical building systems and respond promptly to alarms, failures, and operational issues. * Perform inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, mechanical rooms, and building systems. * Maintain hotel equipment and facilities in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and hotel standards. * Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations. Advanced Technical Responsibilities: * Troubleshoot complex electrical circuits, motors, controls, pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, boilers, water systems, and other building equipment. * Diagnose electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and control-system problems using appropriate testing equipment and technical documentation. * Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and building-system documentation. * Perform or oversee complex repairs and equipment installations. * Determine when specialized contractors or outside service providers are required and provide technical oversight of their work. * Assist with capital projects, renovations, equipment replacements, and major engineering improvements. Qualifications Required: * Experience in hotel engineering, building maintenance, facilities maintenance, commercial property maintenance, or a related field. * Advanced knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building systems. * Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and repair complex equipment. * Ability to read electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals. * Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance practices. * Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, diagnostic equipment, and other engineering equipment. * Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in time-sensitive situations. * Ability to lead and mentor less-experienced engineering personnel. Preferred: * Hotel engineering or hospitality facilities experience. * Technical certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or refrigeration. * Boiler, chiller, BAS/BMS, generator, fire/life-safety, or refrigeration experience.
