Position Summary

Position Summary

Lead and manage Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) systems, training, procedures and initiatives for the United States (U.S.), Parker's largest regional footprint. The position will be responsible for the development of EHS country standards, programs, tools, and training for the U.S. and has accountability for driving continuous improvement. The position will lead deployment of country EHS initiatives, including assistance and support to business units for >200 sites and 5 business groups within the U.S.

Where initiatives are primarily driven in the U.S., but have significance or impact to the global enterprise, this role will lead and/or manage efforts on a global basis (examples include talent development and environmental stewardship).

The position will work closely with Operations as well as HR, Lean, Facilities, Information Technology, Sustainability, Risk Management and Legal functions. The position will work collaboratively with business units and divisions. The role will need to have the ability to work with and influence business leaders, EHS professionals and associate-level employees. This position reports to the Corporate Director of EHS.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for development and operational execution of environmental, health and safety performance consistent with stakeholder expectations in the U.S.

  • Leads various safety programs to support OSHA compliance, for example: ergonomics, risk management, serious incident reduction, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, and employee engagement.

  • Leads resource conservation, waste minimization and other efforts to minimize the organization's environmental impact, including compliance with U.S. EPA requirements.

  • Serves as an EHS subject matter expert and coaches others within U.S. business operations.

  • Researches, evaluates and recommends changes to improve EHS performance.

  • Provides support to business units during regulatory inquiries, enforcement proceedings and litigation, particularly within the United States.

  • Interacts with customers, peer organizations and stakeholders as necessary regarding EHS performance.

  • Provides visibility on EHS progress, performance, and issues to the EHS leadership teams.
  • Monitors federal and state regulatory arena for new/changing regulations and rulemaking to provide advice on impact to business units.

  • Analyze Environmental metrics to identify opportunities to improve and reduce risk.

  • Provide resources and tools to continually increase EHS competency within organization.

  • Manage the enterprise EHS Leadership Development Associates (LDA) and internship programs, including recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, development and program improvements, as well as collaborating with business units to understand their needs.

  • Participate in corporate led internal EHS audit program and process.

  • Provides support to the Corporate EHS Director with vision and strategy, and support to senior leadership on performance, progress and concerns.

  • Strategic leadership skills to execute initiatives and objectives

  • A strong business perspective that includes the ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge and experience with using Lean, continuous improvement and problems tools to drive operational and safety performance.

  • Planning/organizing-the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
  • Proven capability leading and managing comprehensive programs in a relevant, multinational service and manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant laws, regulations and governance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, including technology, tools, and processes.

  • Ability to work in a matrixed, team-oriented environment; Must work effectively to support cross functional teams.

  • Strong Project Management capabilities incorporating project management, stakeholder management, and change management experience.

  • Strong familiarity, understanding and experience with EHS management systems and their successful implementation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher - preferred disciplines: occupational safety and health, environmental safety and health, safety or environmental management, safety engineering, or related field.

  • 10+ years demonstrated experience in EHS.

  • Certification/ licensure a plus: CSP, CIH, Professional Engineer.

  • Experience working with multiple facilities across a business segment and/or with different regions.

  • Business acumen, strong analytical skills, strategic thinking abilities, an understanding of organizational behavior, communication skills, ability to influence, able to work on a team, passionate, driven, self-starter.

  • Ability travel domestically and internationally, as needed.
