Join Our Team as an Inventory Specialist at Epiroc!

The CSC Inventory & Process Optimization Lead is responsible for improving inventory performance, process reliability, and stocking effectiveness for CSC NASA. This position connects business demand, stocking strategy, and operational execution to support product availability, inventory accuracy, working capital, and customer service objectives. The role evaluates where and how inventory should be positioned, identifies risks and opportunities, and leads actions to improve inventory health and material flow across Akron and other current or future inventory locations.

Working at both strategic and tactical levels, the Inventory & Process Optimization Lead partners with demand planning, supply chain, warehouse operations, service and configuration, commercial teams, finance, quality, and other Epiroc facilities. The role translates forecasts, stocking strategies, product plans, and business needs into effective inventory parameters, location decisions, process standards, and improvement priorities.

The position also leads the development of scalable inventory processes and controls, investigates complex inventory and material-flow issues, and supports operational changes such as warehouse openings, integrations, inventory transfers, assortment moves, and system improvements. Success requires strong analytical judgment, cross-functional influence, and the ability to turn complex operational needs into clear, practical, and sustainable solutions.

Work Type:

This role is based onsite at the facility in Akron, Ohio, which includes office space, configuration operations, warehouse and distribution areas, and service-related operations. Work is performed in both office and operational environments and requires regular interaction with employees performing receiving, shipping, material movement, inventory control, configuration, and warehouse activities.

The position may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, forklifts, pallet jacks, trucks, loading areas, material-handling equipment, tools, industrial equipment, noise, dust, fumes, oils, grease, cleaning products, outdoor weather conditions, and other conditions common to warehouse and service environments. Required personal protective equipment must be worn based on the work area or activity, and all Epiroc safety procedures must be followed.

The employee may be required to walk or stand for extended periods, climb stairs, navigate warehouse and operational areas, participate in physical inventories or process audits, and lift or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Regular travel to other Epiroc facilities and current or future warehouse locations is required. Travel frequency and duration may increase as the warehouse network expands. The position may also periodically require schedule flexibility to support physical inventories, warehouse openings, system implementations, audits, or urgent inventory investigations.

Responsibilities:

Inventory Integrity, Control & Governance

  • Own and maintain the end-to-end inventory control framework for receiving, inspection, put-away, storage, picking, issuing, staging, internal transfers, service consumption, returns, adjustments, refurbishment, scrap, and disposal.
  • Establish and monitor receiving controls to verify the correct item, quantity, condition, documentation, serial or lot information, location, and ERP transaction before inventory is made available.
  • Define physical and system controls for material temporarily removed from stock for service or configuration, including interim holding locations, work-in-process ownership, consumption, returns to stock, and final reconciliation.
  • Oversee cycle count and physical inventory control processes, including count guidance, result review, variance investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action.
  • Reconcile physical inventory to ERP records and recommend or coordinate inventory adjustments within established approval levels.
  • Escalate control failures, material losses, recurring discrepancies, and other issues that create operational, customer, or financial risk.
  • Perform process audits and transaction reviews to confirm compliance with approved inventory procedures, documentation requirements, and segregation-of-duties controls.

Inventory Health & Optimization

  • Monitor inventory accuracy, availability, turns, value, aging, working capital, and Obsolete and Slow-Moving Inventory (OSMI), and translate findings into clear action plans.
  • Develop reporting that provides operations, commercial teams, and leadership with visibility into inventory health, risks, trends, and required actions by item, product group, and location.
  • Establish an inventory aging and action framework with defined review points so at-risk inventory is addressed before it becomes obsolete or slow moving.
  • Coordinate actions such as demand validation, redeployment, commercial focus, pricing review, refurbishment, resale, or disposition.
  • Partner with commercial teams to develop and execute plans for excess, aging, and no-demand inventory.
  • Partner with the Demand Planner to translate approved forecasts and stocking strategies into effective inventory parameters, replenishment settings, and inventory positioning.
  • Provide inventory performance, exception data, and operational insight to demand planning and Sales and Operations Planning discussions.
  • Analyze and recommend where inventory should be positioned across warehouses and other Epiroc facilities, balancing customer service, lead time, demand, handling requirements, and inventory carrying costs.

Demonstration, Return & Disposition Processes

  • Own the inventory control process for demonstration units from initial issue through return, evaluation, refurbishment, resale, redeployment, or final disposition.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent return and condition-assessment process that identifies required inspection, repair, or refurbishment and ensures labor, parts, condition, ownership, and status are documented accurately.
  • Coordinate with service, commercial, finance, and quality stakeholders to establish disposition criteria and execute approved decisions.
  • Ensure demonstration and returned units are not released for sale or reuse until required work, approvals, documentation, and ERP transactions are complete.
  • Track the aging, status, and cycle time of demonstration and returned inventory and escalate stalled decisions or actions.

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Design practical, reliable, and scalable inventory processes, standard operating procedures, work instructions, process maps, control points, and ownership matrices.
  • Lead cross-functional investigations when inventory moves outside an approved process or when physical movement, ERP transactions, and financial ownership do not align.
  • Identify recurring failure points and implement sustainable corrective actions rather than relying on one-time adjustments or workarounds.
  • Participate in projects to implement or improve ERP, warehouse, reporting, and inventory-management functionality.
  • Document business requirements, test system or process changes, support implementation, and reinforce adoption.
  • Support inventory setup, transfers, and process implementation related to acquisitions, integrations, warehouse openings, consolidations, assortment moves, and other operational changes.
  • Use continuous improvement methods and performance data to simplify work, reduce errors, improve inventory visibility, and strengthen customer service.

Multi-Site Process Leadership & Training

  • Provide functional oversight and day-to-day process direction to employees performing shipping, receiving, material movement, and inventory-control activities.
  • Establish consistent inventory standards across Akron and other current or future warehouses or inventory locations while accounting for legitimate local operational needs.
  • Train employees and leaders on inventory processes, ERP transactions, control requirements, and the business reasons behind them.
  • Confirm understanding, reinforce accountability, and follow up when processes or controls are not consistently followed.
  • Lead cross-functional working sessions, communicate findings and recommendations, coordinate actions, and follow through until issues are resolved.
  • Influence stakeholders across operations, commercial, supply chain, and support functions through clear facts, sound analysis, and practical solutions.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining evidence of inventory controls, investigations, adjustments, approvals, and corrective actions.

Performance, Documentation & Compliance

  • Establish, monitor, and communicate relevant performance measures, which may include inventory accuracy, variance closure, OSMI, aging, turns, inventory as a percentage of cost of goods sold, product availability, Supply in Full on Time, delivery performance, and process compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with Epiroc policies, financial controls, record-retention requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Follow and reinforce Epiroc safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Stop work or escalate concerns when inventory handling or process conditions create an unacceptable safety, quality, operational, or financial risk.
  • Maintain a professional, responsive, and collaborative approach with internal stakeholders, customers, and business partners.

Knowledge/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, operations, business, engineering, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Three or more years of progressive experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, supply chain management, or a related field, including responsibility for inventory accuracy and process improvement.
  • Experience developing, documenting, implementing, and improving processes, rather than only executing established procedures.
  • Experience leading inventory variance investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions involving physical inventory and ERP transactions.
  • Experience working with ERP or warehouse-management systems and inventory-control concepts such as cycle counting, stock status, replenishment, aging, OSMI, and working capital.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional projects and influencing stakeholders without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Valid driver's license required, with the ability to travel regularly based on business needs.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify patterns, test assumptions, and resolve complex issues that may not be immediately apparent.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple investigations, projects, and action plans simultaneously.
  • Strong Excel and data-analysis skills; experience with reporting or data-visualization tools preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear procedures, explain controls, lead meetings, and deliver training.
  • Practical understanding of warehouse and material flow, including receiving, storage, picking, staging, internal transfers, returns, refurbishment, and disposition.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make day-to-day decisions independently within established policies, financial controls, and approval authority.
  • Collaborative and customer-focused approach, with the confidence to respectfully challenge unclear, inconsistent, or ineffective practices.
  • Experience supporting inventory across multiple warehouses, service centers, or business locations preferred.
  • Experience with demonstration, rental, return, refurbishment, or used-equipment inventory preferred.
  • Experience with ERP master data, stocking parameters, warehouse-location controls, or inventory reporting preferred.
  • Lean, continuous improvement, project management, or inventory-management training or certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Epiroc products, systems, policies, or operating structure is a plus.
