DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will focus on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment that support transportation operations. The work you will do ensures safe, efficient performance across many systems and components. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repair: Repair vehicles and machinery including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and hydraulic components
- Preventative Maintenance: Complete scheduled service tasks to keep equipment in safe working condition and reduce breakdowns
- State Inspections: Conduct official inspections, make necessary adjustments, and prepare required documentation
- Diagnostic Work: Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical issues and determine the proper repair methods
- Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, maintain a clean work area, and report hazards or injuries promptly

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License. This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
Additional Requirements:
This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at time of application. You must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period. You may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
