The Fox Theatre in Atlanta seeks a motivated, well-qualified candidate with experience managing culinary operations to lead its culinary department as Executive Chef. The Executive Chef is responsible for managing and overseeing all culinary strategies, initiatives, and daily operations at the Fox Theatre. This role ensures the highest standards of food quality, freshness, and presentation while adhering to the Fox Theater's unique food culture, style, and regulatory compliance. This role will maintain strict oversight of all financial metrics associated with the culinary department including labor and food costs. The Executive Chef will be a visionary leader, passionate about culinary innovation, and capable of successfully executing culinary strategies across diverse functions, including producing upscale concessions and support for select internal private events.
This position demands strong leadership in creating a collaborative, respectful, and professional kitchen environment. The Executive Chef will be hands-on, providing day-to-day direction in kitchen operations and culinary development and ensuring seamless coordination between the kitchen, concessions, and other divisions. They will oversee budgeting, financial performance, inventory management, and purchasing, ensuring efficiency and cost control without compromising quality.
In addition to managing the members' club, the Executive Chef will support the concessions program, develop high-quality, performance-aligned menu items, and maintain smooth, high-volume service during events. They will also partner with internal teams to craft customized menus and deliver an exceptional culinary experience for select private events held at the theatre.
The Executive Chef plays a pivotal role in fostering and executing a unified culinary vision for the theatre. This includes leading training and development to ensure that all culinary functions align with the company's overall vision and direction. This individual will nurture strong business relationships, lead with integrity and creativity, and exemplify hospitality excellence for internal staff and external guests, ensuring a positive atmosphere and an unforgettable culinary experience for all. Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee all areas of culinary operations, including the members' club, concessions, and internal private events, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and service;
- Demonstrate strong business acumen and ability to meet budgets related to labor, food costs, and applicable direct operating expenses. Use excellent analytical skills to optimize performance while maintaining quality standards;
- Develop innovative menus for the members' club and concessions that reflect the brand's style and standards, ensuring seasonal freshness, creativity, and consistency in presentation;
- Collaborate with event planners and internal teams to design and execute menus for both public and private events, ensuring an exceptional guest experience;
- Work collaboratively and professionally with other departments to achieve company-wide business goals;
- Attend and actively participate in scheduled meetings and training sessions, ensuring team alignment;
- Work hands-on to schedule, coordinate, and supervise all kitchen activities across multiple shifts. Manage kitchen staff by delegating responsibilities, setting deadlines, and maintaining accountability to ensure smooth and efficient operations;
- Direct and oversee the proper training of kitchen staff in food storage, preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation. Ensure that all staff maintain the Fox Theatre's standards of excellence and compliance with food safety regulations;
- Ensure all kitchen operations comply with health, safety, and sanitation standards. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen that adheres to all regulatory guidelines;
- Maintain the Fox Theatre's standard of culinary excellence by staying current on market trends and continuously improving menu offerings;
- Attend culinary exhibitions, buying shows, and educational seminars as required to keep on the cutting edge of new products and industry advancements;
- Other duties as directed.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation, and presentation, particularly in fine dining, upscale concessions, and event catering;
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop kitchen staff across multiple shifts, including delegation, setting expectations, and holding teams accountable;
- Hands-on ability to oversee day-to-day culinary operations, scheduling, and coordination of all kitchen activities;
- Ability to manage kitchen budgets, including labor, food costs, and direct operating expenses. Analytical skills to ensure cost-efficiency without compromising quality;
- Experience training kitchen staff in safe food handling, preparation, and presentation to maintain consistent standards and adherence to safety regulations;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining composure and creativity in addressing challenges;
- In-depth understanding of food safety, sanitation, and regulatory guidelines. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen environment.
Education & Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Completion of a formal culinary training program from an accredited culinary school or equivalent professional experience;
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in high-end culinary environments, including fine dining, private events, or upscale catering;
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role, such as Executive Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager, managing multiple shifts and kitchen staff;
- Experience in developing and managing food and labor costs, including menu pricing, inventory control, and budget forecasting;
- Hands-on experience in all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu development, food preparation, plating, and presentation;
- Proven track record of ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Education & Experience Preferred:
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field;
- Professional certifications such as Certified Executive Chef (CEC) or Certified Culinary Administrator (CCA) from the American Culinary Federation (ACF);
- 7-10 years of experience in leadership roles within high-end restaurants, private clubs, or performance theatres, focusing on upscale dining and event catering;
- Previous experience working in a theatre, entertainment venue, or a hospitality setting with high-volume concessions and private events;
- Extensive experience in culinary innovation, menu creation, and staying current with food and beverage trends;
- Experience working with local and sustainable sourcing and building solid relationships with vendors and suppliers;
- Experience managing kitchen operations for a la carte service and large-scale private events or banquets.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Stamina to work 60 hours or more per week;
- Must be able to work extended shifts of 10 hours or more as business dictates, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed;
- Must be flexible with schedule and able to work different shifts;
- Should be able to traverse the venue, including moving between floors;
- Occasionally required to stoop or lift light materials or equipment.
Special Requirements: The Executive Chef must excel in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to last-minute changes in guest counts and managing pop-up events with ease. Creativity in menu design and visually appealing plate and buffet presentations is essential. This role requires working with part-time staff on a fluctuating weekly event schedule while ensuring a solid presence during peak hours of operation. The Executive Chef is responsible for overseeing compliance with all local and state safety and sanitation policies, managing the purchasing of food and supplies for all culinary operations, and maintaining kitchen equipment according to a strict daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedule. Additionally, the role closely monitors food, supply, and labor costs to ensure adherence to monthly and semi-annual budgets. Other Requirements:
