The Research Technician will be responsible for tissue processing of samples from individuals with leukemia, myeloma and lymphoma as part of the Center for Blood Cancers tissue biobank. This tissue bank is a key resource for many different kinds of ongoing research in blood cancers at NYU Langone Health. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. Job Responsibilities: * Initiates, interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments critical to department's mission.
* Lab Duties - advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Techniques will include handling, processing and storage of human samples, cell separation, tissue culture, and flow cytometry. Attention to detail and excellent record keeping will be required to ensure accurate documentation, storage and retrieval of samples.
* Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. In addition to those duties expected of an Associate Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment. Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments.
* Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
* Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Communication between the research laboratory and the clinical research team will be important to ensure timely collection of samples in accordance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Communication between research laboratories will also be required to enable distribution of samples. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
* Judgment/Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
* Participates and performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree; Flow cytometry; Tissue and cell culture experience; Handling of human samples; database experience (RedCap). Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $55,650.00 - $55,650.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
