Summary of Job Duties:The Director of Facilities serves as the primary facilities leader overseeing operations across the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus System, including the new UAMS Surgical Hospital. This role will initially focus on guiding the new surgical hospital through construction, commissioning, go-live, and into sustained operations before transitioning to full leadership responsibilities.

The Director will provide leadership for facility operations, including pre-opening construction oversight, facilities management, team supervision, safety and emergency management, financial and budget management, and strategic planning. This position reports to the Executive Director of Engineering Operations and collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and administrative leadership across the regional campus system.

This dynamic role offers the opportunity to lead a critical phase of facility development and ongoing operations for the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus System, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care across the region. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in facilities management, engineering, healthcare administration, or a related field plus six (6) years of progressive planning and facilities management experience, including at least two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory role.

OR

  • High school diploma/equivalent plus ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in planning and facilities management, including at least two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with healthcare construction or pre-opening facility operations.
  • Working knowledge of accreditation and licensure requirements for healthcare facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, vendor relationships, and cross-functional partnerships.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in facilities management, engineering, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in progressive planning and facilities management in a healthcare setting

Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in healthcare construction, commissioning, and pre-opening facility operations.
  • Knowledge of accreditation and licensure requirements for healthcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in budget management, vendor relationships, and stakeholder partnerships.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to operate effectively in a fast-paced, pre-opening environment.
  • Ability to supervise and develop teams while fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Experience with life safety compliance, emergency management, and facility maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Opening Construction and Oversight:

  • Serve as the facilities lead during surgical hospital construction phases.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections, permitting, and commissioning of building systems (HVAC, medical gas, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression/alarm).
  • Oversee FF&E/IT move-in and develop a facilities readiness checklist aligned with the go-live timeline.

Facilities Management:

  • Establish preventative maintenance programs, manage vendor contracts, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct audits, maintain facility management databases, and evaluate service performance.

Team Leadership and Supervision:

  • Provide supervision, performance management, and professional development for facilities and engineering staff.
  • Foster a team culture emphasizing safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Safety, Life Safety, and Emergency Management:

  • Lead life safety compliance efforts and maintain facility life safety management plans.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness planning and ensure regulatory compliance for facility systems.

Financial and Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the department's operating budget, including labor, maintenance contracts, and capital expenditures.
  • Forecast operational and capital expense needs in alignment with campus growth plans.

Strategic Planning and Interdepartmental Coordination:

  • Advise on long-range facility planning, infrastructure needs, and capital project prioritization.
  • Represent facilities in cross-functional planning efforts related to campus expansion and service line growth.

May perform other duties to support the campus facilities
