Job Title: Manager for HR and Academic Affairs Strategy

Job Summary:

The Manager of HR and Academic Affairs Strategy will partner with the HR/AA Program Director to provide leadership to the HR/Academic Affairs Team and implement the department's key HR and Academic Affairs priorities. This role will be responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the HR and Academic Affairs functions of the Department, including talent acquisition, performance and development, payroll, position administration, leave administration, onboarding/offboarding procedures, Smartsheet infrastructure development and implementation, promotions and mid-point review processes, and volunteer, emeritus, and affiliate faculty appointment processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the HR and Academic Affairs teams in the DOP.

  • Responsible for the development of departmental processes, procedures, and guidelines for all human resource activities and overseeing the same for Academic Affairs activities.

  • In partnership with the Program Director, manage the semi-annual salary setting process (e.g., Table 1) for the DOP.

  • Maintain the HR section of the DOP Intranet, updating and expanding content as needed.

  • Work with the Program Director and department leadership to implement department goals and priorities related to HR and Academic Affairs activities.

  • Oversee the implementation and expansion of the Smartsheet platform within the DOP.

  • Represent the DOP on working groups and UAT testing teams for all University-wide initiatives related to HR, salary planning, and HCM systems, processes, procedures, etc.

  • Manage all personnel and payroll actions for a small portfolio of sections.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule with occasional onsite presence as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, health care administration, education, social sciences, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

  • Combined seven (7) years of demonstrated progressive experience in Human Resources, Talent Management, and Academic Affairs in a university and/or healthcare setting.

  • Minimum of two (2) or direct supervisory experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Resource Management or related field.

  • SHRM Certification.

  • Ten (10+) years of combined experience in Human Resources, Talent Management, and Academic Affairs.

  • Progressive leadership experience in Human Resources/Talent Management.

  • Experience with promotion and tenure processes and procedures.

  • Experience providing advanced HR and Academic Affairs assistance to faculty and staff within a higher education setting.

  • Experience utilizing Smartsheet or comparable enterprise workflow management systems to support project coordination, operational tracking, process automation, and reporting functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of HCM and CU Careers systems.

  • Advanced proficiency with Smartsheet, including workflow automation, dashboard creation, reporting, and process optimization.

  • Background in complex behavioral health or academic medical settings.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, regulations, and policies in order to apply good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.

  • Knowledge of professional standards, concepts, and practices related to recruitment, employee relations, and human resource policies.

  • Knowledge of the Rules of the School of Medicine and Policies of the Board of Regents as they apply to promotions, recruitment, terminations, and malpractice.

  • Effective communication and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to resolve sensitive and difficult problems involving personnel using tact, diplomacy, sound judgment, and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and grow team members.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead operational and process improvement initiatives within complex academic, healthcare, or higher education environments.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $78,476 to $105,157.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
