Internal Search - Open only to tenured faculty at the University of Iowa
Position Summary: The Associate Provost for Faculty collaborates across campus to advance the recruitment, hiring, mentoring, development, and promotion and tenure of faculty at the University of Iowa. The associate provost is a multifaceted leader who advises the executive vice president and provost (provost) on critical faculty matters and works closely with the senior vice provost, associate provosts, and collegiate leadership to advance faculty success across the institution. As a member of the Provost's leadership team, the associate provost helps guide strategic initiatives aligned with the university's mission and commitment to fostering an environment in which faculty members can thrive. This position is housed within the Office of the Provost and reports directly to the provost. Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the senior vice provost, associate provosts, collegiate deans, associate deans, and campus partners to develop, implement, and administer faculty-related policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Advise the provost and senior vice provost on faculty-related matters, including recruitment and retention, promotion and tenure, policy interpretation and implementation, misconduct and policy violations, and faculty success initiatives.
- Spearhead faculty success and professional development initiatives within the Office of the Provost, including faculty honorific awards, fellowships, endowed positions, leadership development programs, and new faculty orientation.
- Lead institutional processes related to faculty misconduct and other faculty personnel matters in partnership with the senior vice provost and campus partners, including Office of Civil Rights Compliance, University Human Resources, and the Office of General Counsel.
- Advance strategic efforts to support faculty recruitment, hiring, retention, and long-term faculty success across the university, in partnership with the provost and senior vice provost, including oversight of the P3-funded High Impact Hiring Initiative.
- Convene regular meetings of the collegiate associate deans for faculty and provide oversight for decanal, collegiate, and departmental reviews and related reporting.
- Serve as the University of Iowa liaison to the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Academic and DEO Leadership programs and participate, as appropriate, in university leadership, governance, and Iowa Board of Regents activities related to faculty affairs.
- Provide functional and administrative supervision for the faculty HR administrative staff within the Office of the Provost.

Rank of full professor with tenure at the University of Iowa
A record of personal integrity, good judgment, initiative, innovation, collaboration, and consensus-building
Substantial administrative experience with senior collegiate and central administrators
Substantial experience with personnel issues regarding faculty
Excellent written and oral communication skills
