Main Duties & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Plastics Utility Operator is responsible for supporting production operations by operating and supplying equipment, monitoring product quality, mixing materials, maintaining housekeeping standards, and assisting with various production-related tasks. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient manufacturing operations while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
This position is for 1st Shift: 6:00am-2:00pm. This role is required to be on-site 5-6 days at the Auburn, IN location.
Responsibilities:
- Uphold and communicate the purpose, values, and vision of TriMas Packaging.
- Operate assembly and production equipment according to established procedures.
- Inspect and verify product quality to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Supply machines with materials and components to support continuous production.
- Mix raw materials according to work instructions and production requirements.
- Assist with machine startups, changeovers, and operational support as needed.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
- Perform routine housekeeping throughout the production area.
- Safely handle and transport materials, finished goods, and supplies.
- Assist in inventory organization and material staging activities.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Report equipment issues, quality concerns, and safety hazards to supervision.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Position is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, elevated noise levels, and varying temperatures.
- Work environment may involve exposure to fluctuating temperatures based on seasonal and operational conditions.
- Requires the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods during scheduled shifts.
- Must be able to frequently bend, stoop, reach, climb, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
- Requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment, hand tools, and material handling devices.
- Must be able to safely work around production equipment and machinery.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills:
- Prior plastics manufacturing experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience operating manufacturing or assembly equipment is beneficial.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude preferred.
- Commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance and dependable work performance.
Compensation:
This position has a step progression pay scale:
- Starting - $19.31/hour
- 6 months - $20.82/hour
- 1 year - $23.73/hour
- 2 years - $24.73/hour
- 3 years - $26.47/hour
