Inova Fairfax East - Outpatient Neurology Clinic is looking for a dedicated Stroke Neurology APP (NP/PA) to join the team. This role will be full-time Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Inova Neurology provides patients with the highest level of care relating to diagnostic, treatment and research services for neurological and related disorders. Our physicians are board certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology, sleep medicine, internal medicine, electroencephalography, vascular neurology and electrodiagnostic medicine.

Our practice also offers in-office testing for a wide range of neurological and sleep disorders.

Outpatient Stroke Neurology APP Job Responsibilities

  • Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional, regulatory, and ethical standards of practice.
  • Conducts comprehensive neurological assessments and evaluates patients with ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), intracerebral hemorrhage, cerebral vascular abnormalities, and other cerebrovascular disorders in the outpatient setting.
  • Develops differential diagnoses and evidence-based treatment plans based on patient history, neurological examination, diagnostic testing, and clinical findings.
  • Provides longitudinal follow-up care for stroke survivors, focusing on secondary stroke prevention, vascular risk factor modification, functional recovery, and symptom management.
  • Collaborates with neurologists, primary care providers, rehabilitation specialists, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Evaluates and documents patients' response to treatment and assesses the impact of neurological disease on physical function, cognition, communication, emotional well-being, family dynamics, and quality of life.
  • Provides patient and family education regarding stroke diagnosis, prognosis, medication management, risk factor reduction, lifestyle modifications, warning signs of recurrent stroke, and available community resources.
  • Prescribes medications, orders diagnostic testing, and initiates referrals consistent with scope of practice and organizational guidelines.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, including comprehensive histories, neurological examinations, progress notes, patient education, care coordination activities, and follow-up plans.
  • Facilitates transitions of care following hospital discharge and works to reduce readmissions through timely outpatient follow-up and care coordination.
  • Participates in stroke program quality initiatives, performance improvement activities, accreditation readiness efforts, and compliance with national stroke care standards.
  • Proactively assists peers with clinical and operational responsibilities to support efficient clinic workflow and patient access.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Outpatient Stroke Neurology APP Minimum Qualifications:

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

  • Education: Mastersin Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

  • Certification: Basic Life Support upon start through AHA

  • Licensure: - Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)

  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor

  • Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Prior APP experience in Neurology
