This is an internal job posting, available only to current employees of Winston-Salem State University.
Winston-Salem State University is seeking an experienced Career Counselor to join the Career Development Services Team! Career Development Services (
CDS) works with students during all phases of the career development process, offering a full range of resources and services to assist students in developing the necessary strategies and skills which will distinguish them as a professional.
Responsibilities of the Career Counselor include:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to help students/alumni make an informed career decision. Assist and guide students/alumni through occupational exploration and the career decision-making process.
- Teach and coach students/alumni in self-directed job search strategies. Provide resume/cover letter critiques and interview skills training. Engage students/alumni in use of library and on-line resources for researching employers and current employment opportunities.
- Develop and conduct career and job search workshops. Promote recruitment services and engage students/alumni in participating in the on-line job listing service, resume referral, on-campus interviews, career fairs and other career events.
- Provide weekly office hours at the School of Business and providing professional development programming specifically for the school of business.
- Walking clients through the process of compiling and restructuring their resumes.
- Pinpointing and informing clients of potentially helpful career-related opportunities.
- Proposing career-related options that are congruent with your substantiated insights.
- Assist with and/or coordinate logistical and administrative details for career fairs, graduate fairs, on-campus interview schedules, job listing service and special career events.
- Develop partnerships with off-campus employers to engage their participation in advertising part-time paid positions with Career Services.
- Market recruitment services and develop partnerships with employers to identify employment opportunities and engage their participation in campus recruitment services such as on-line job listing service, resume referral, on-campus interviews, career fairs and information sessions.
- Educate all students on resume building, interview skills, and professionalism.
- Execute outreach programs to promote career services among all students.
- Manage the Career Development Services email box, manage CDS main phone line, and coordinate all room and bus reservation based on the office needs.
- Assist the Career Development Services Director with the office budget.
- Provide other counseling and administrative support as required to accomplish the mission and goals of Career Development Services and WSSU.
- Develop a career counseling and career development programming for WSSU Athletic students.
- May supervise and direct work projects of student assistants.
