The Office of Student Success in the College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Experiential Learning Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

The Experiential Learning Coordinator (Program Coordinator) will play a pivotal role in integrating career and professional development into the academic experience within the College of Applied Human Sciences. The incumbent will coordinate and manage all aspects of practicum/internship/externship development, support, and assessment. Will work to generate new and industry relevant relationships with employers to facilitate internships, externships, and other experiential learning opportunities. The coordinator will also work with faculty in the development of programming and resources for the reskilling and upskilling of new pools of students for career change. The coordinator will interact with faculty and students across the college in the promotion and development of resources that focus on NACE's career readiness competencies.

What You'll Do

Practicum/Internship Development, Support, and Assessment

  • Support all aspects of student practicums/internships/externships, including process development, direct student support and program assessment.
    • Identify prospective practicum/internship sites based on student interest, curriculum alignment, and faculty research areas. Work with and assist agencies/organizations as needed to establish practicum descriptions for students.
    • Identify potential pools of students for reskilling or upskilling. Work with faculty for developing programming and/or resources.
    • Hold information sessions for students.
    • Meet with students through group settings, individual appointments, and drop-in hours.
    • Manage the administration of student-facing elements of programs to support career development, including oversight of the current processes.
  • Provide timely and relevant reporting and metrics to CAHS leadership and utilize findings to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Will work closely with the CAHS Career Development Specialist, Director of the Office of Student Success and the Associate Dean of Student Success and Academic Affairs.
    • Utilize findings to make data-driven decisions about future programming.

Instructor for CAHS 300 Career Exploration and Development and/or CAHS 489 Capstone Experience in CAHS

  • Instruct two sections of 3- credit courses above in fall and spring terms. Complete all duties and responsibilities as well as comply with all university rules and regulations associated with course instruction.
  • Develop a strong rapport with students and begin instilling the importance of career planning beginning with the freshman year.
  • Develop, implement, and assess career development programming, including resume review and practice interviewing.

Communication and Outreach

  • Collaborate with WVU Career Services to thoroughly understand resources available to students and CAHS alumni.
  • Develop relevant and engaging content/resources to be featured on the CAHS website.
  • Participate in conversations with prospective students and parents to demonstrate the ROI of various undergraduate majors.
  • Benchmark with peer institutions to obtain new and effective ways to deliver career and professional advice.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with faculty and other administrators for the purpose of collaborative efforts for student success.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of academic program requirements, academic policy information, and university policies, processes, and mandates.
  • Recommend changes to university policies, procedures, processes, and mandates to encourage student success especially for assigned student population areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as attend meetings, serve on University or College committees.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in a relevant field required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years in the following:
  • Experience working in higher ed
    • Working with internships
    • Working with a diverse student population
    • Developing and delivering training and workshops to small and large audiences
  • Experience in developing and launching an endeavor
  • Experience in student development
  • Experience using social media to market opportunities
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
