The MGBCI Waltham Infusion Center is seeking a full-time (36 hours/week) Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Infusion Service Line team at MGBCI Waltham. The Infusion Unit APP will serve as an infusion unit first responder for patients undergoing therapy and supportive care for solid tumor, malignant hematology and classical hematology conditions as well as for medical infusion patients receiving therapy for chronic illnesses; promote infusion services access and efficiency; and provide urgent care/symptom management in close collaboration with primary oncology disease teams and medicine teams. The infusion APP will work collaboratively with nursing, physician and operational leaders. Primary Responsibilities - The MGBCI Waltham Infusion Center APP is responsible for the care of hematology/oncology and medicine patients in the outpatient setting. - While on the adult infusion unit, oversees the care of patients with complex diagnoses serving as a first responder for acute reactions and medical emergencies. Contributes to the design and implementation of care escalation pathways. - Works collaboratively with longitudinal hematology/oncology and medical teams and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care across the care continuum. - Provides consultation to both nurses and providers to maintain and improve access to infusion services. - Applies advanced practice knowledge to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems. - Writes orders which are in accord with current guidelines. - Maintains and practices in accord with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations. - Serves on appropriate intra and interdepartmental committees. - Collaborates with unit staff, Clinical Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Specialists and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs. - Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care. - Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration. - Supports research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice. - Evaluates own practice and program effectiveness. - Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials. - Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure. - Identifies own learning needs and goals. Ideal Candidate will have: * Demonstrated competence in the care of the adult hematology/oncology patient and complex medicine patients * DEA and MCSR is required * ACLS certification is preferred * At least 3 years' experience as an APP first responder is preferred With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider promotes a collaborative relationship between all providers, professional nurses and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. The APP is responsible for the assessment and management of medical oncology patients and medical infusion patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in this transactional setting and contributes to complex care coordination with primary continuity providers. In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the infusion APP serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The infusion APP will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team. Summary The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.
