A CRT licensed Mammography Technologist performing screening and diagnostic breast imaging and procedures. The Technologist produces ACR quality images in both diagnostic and screening exams. This technologist is able to interact with clinicians and other departments to coordinate patient care. The Technologist ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS systems. The technologist must participate in performance improvement activities in the department. Maintains appropriate quality control records and participates in routine equipment testing and maintenance. Additionally, the Mammography Technologist must be willing to train and interact with students and new hires when necessary.

This per diem role provides coverage at UCSF campus locations, working 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday.

  1. Produces ACR quality images following

established departmental protocols to include technique, views, positioning,

proper labeling and patient identification.

  1. Properly prepares room, equipment and contrast media as needed to assist Radiologist.
  2. Properly troubleshoots equipment failures, documents and reports to the appropriate individual.
  3. Prepares patient for imaging. Identifies self, explains the procedure and confirms patient identification, and properly reviews exam requisition through the radiology information system, and or the hospital electronic order entry systems before imaging.
  4. Properly carry out daily quality assurance procedure in accordance with MQSA accreditation compliance.
  5. Work safely and effectively with ancillary and procedural staff in the mammography environment and participates in the timeout procedure.
  6. Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.
  7. Maintains constant communication with patients as well as fellow staff involved with the exam.
  8. Presents oneself in a professional manner and with a positive demeanor to all patients, co-workers, physicians and departments.

B. ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

1. Utilizes proper body mechanics to ensure staff and patient safety upon moving

and or transferring patients and equipment.

2. Follows established radiation safety guidelines. Uses appropriate patient

shielding.

3. Follows established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and

tardiness. Regular and predictable job attendance is required, based on the Department Standard guidelines and the represented union contract.

4. Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures. Remains

current and compliant with all safety policies reviewed on the medical center

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prin level requires minimum of 5 years of Mammography experience. Sr. level requires minimum of 3 years of Mammography experience
  • Graduate of a JCERT radiology technology training program.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing to assist at any of the UCSF Medical Center Locations.

    • BLS Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification
    • Requires proof of mammography - specific training of at least 40 documented hours, if certified after April 27, 1999.
    • Requires proof of having performed at least 200 mammography exams in the last 24 months (rolling 24-month calendar)
    • Requires certificates of at least 15 CEU's in Mammography in the last 36-month period (rolling 36 month calendar).
    • Requires proof of MQSA approved 8 hours each of Digital and 3D Tomosynthesis training.
