Responsibilities
The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Operations Manager leads the operational execution, performance, and consistency of NDT services across multiple departments or offices. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient project delivery, resource utilization, quality control, and financial performance of the NDT service line. The NDT Operations Manager works closely with Department Managers, Branch Managers, and the Practice Leader to drive operational excellence, support business growth, and ensure alignment with company standards, client expectations, and ECS Core Values. Responsibilities
- Oversees daily operations and execution of NDT services across multiple departments or offices
- Ensures efficient scheduling, staffing, and utilization of field personnel and resources
- Monitors and drives performance metrics, including revenue, utilization, backlog, and margins
- Supports Department Managers in resolving operational, staffing, and scheduling challenges
- Ensures consistency in service delivery, processes, and operational standards across teams
- Coordinates resource allocation and workload balancing across projects and locations
- Supports proposal development, staffing plans, and execution strategies for major projects
- Partners with Department Managers and technical leaders to ensure quality and compliance in NDT services
- Identifies operational inefficiencies and implements process improvements
- Supports budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance tracking for the service line
- Collaborates with the Practice Leader on operational strategies and execution plans
- Drives accountability across teams for performance, productivity, and delivery outcomes
- Supports training, certification tracking, and workforce development initiatives
- Ensures compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures
- Serves as a liaison between field operations, department leadership, and executive leadership
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's or Master's in Civil Engineering preferred
- 8 years of related experience
- Maintain basic, multi-method Level II certifications and one advanced NDT method
- Obtain an external certification, such as AWS CWI or API 653, or a certification as an ASNT Level III
- Obtain any additional certifications based on the service line needs
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Advanced understanding of NDT services, inspection methods, and field operations
- Strong financial acumen (utilization, revenue, margins, forecasting)
- Ability to manage multiple teams and priorities across locations
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Effective communication and coordination skills across all levels
- Ability to drive operational consistency and process improvement
- Strong understanding of safety, quality, and compliance requirements
- Ability to lead through influence and coordination (not just direct supervision)
