Inova Loudoun Hospital is looking for an experienced Perianesthesia Clinical Nurse Educator.

This is a full-time exempt position. Monday-Friday (day shift schedule).

Inova Loudoun Hospital's Perianesthesia Unit has a total of 38 bays (16 Pre-Op bays, 14 stage 1 bays and 8 stage 2 bays), that serve a diverse surgical population of all ages. Our Surgical Service Lines include, general/trauma, endoscopy, spine, orthopedic, neurosurgery, robotics, urology, plastics, gynecology, breast, podiatry, vascular, maxillofacial, dental, and ENT. Since ILH has earned its level two trauma designation, our Perianesthesia team is evolving and expanding our skillsets and knowledge base.

Our Perianesthesia team members are self-motivated, hardworking and a proficient group of nurses. We have varying/staggered shift times, and as of now, we staff the unit full time with a night and weekend team. Nurses care for patients in Phase 1 and Phase 2 and work very closely with our Pre-op team. We take pride in our excellent patient care and wide knowledge base that continues to expand and adapt to meet the needs of our community.

Clinical Educator Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes system strategies and tools to assess the competency of new nursing staff members while focusing on quality of care and patient safety goals.
  • Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles and clinical nursing expertise into educational experiences for both new and experienced team members.
  • Prepares annual self-development plans, sets professional goals and seek opportunities for achieving them.
  • Contributes to quality and safety initiatives across the organization.
  • Leads onboarding, orientation, and competency validation for new hires and transitioning nurses.
  • Develops ongoing educational opportunities such as simulations, inservices, microlearnings, evidence-based education programs, and skilled based training in support of unit learning, competency, and proficiency.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor, supporting staff development, critical thinking, and adherence to best practices.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams (anesthesia, critical care, providers/proceduralists) to improve patient outcomes, workflow efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

  • Facilitates emergency preparedness through hands-on drills, training, and simulations.

  • Supports staff professional development and growth through certification review preparation, Clinical Ladder advancement coaching, and unit committee support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree or BSN and enrolled in Master's program upon start. If RN has a BSN and enrolled in Master's program, RN must meet with their Nurse Leader within 3 months to conduct the following:
    1. Provide a written plan with anticipated Masters completion date
    2. Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses
    3. Complete Masters within 3 years of start date.
  • Experience: 2 years of progressive experience in nursing in designated specialty; 3 months of experience serving as preceptor.
  • Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state RN License.
