Mountain Youth Academy (a UHS company) is seeking a Case Manager Supervisor

Mountain Youth Academy is centrally located near Johnson City, TN, Boone, NC, and Abingdon, VA. We are a 120-bed residential treatment facility and assist in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health issues for our young adolescent patients.

Position Summary

The Case Manager Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and oversight to the case management team within a behavioral health hospital. This role ensures high-quality patient care coordination, discharge planning, utilization management, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The supervisor collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes, continuity of care, and efficient transitions across the continuum of behavioral health services.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Case Managers and Social Services staff.
  • Ensure timely completion of psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, discharge planning, and aftercare coordination.
  • Monitor caseload assignments and workflow to promote quality patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support regarding complex patient cases, community resources, and barriers to discharge.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nursing staff, and external providers to facilitate coordinated patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and payer requirements.
  • Review documentation for quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in utilization review activities and assist with authorization and reimbursement processes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, referral sources, and outpatient providers.
  • Analyze departmental metrics and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic initiatives supporting hospital goals.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or related field required.
  • Master's degree in social work, Counseling, or related behavioral health field preferred.
  • Current licensure in TN preferred (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent).
  • Certification in Case Management (CCM, ACM, or similar) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of case management experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, substance use treatment, or healthcare settings.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
  • Experience with discharge planning, utilization review, and care coordination required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of behavioral health treatment services and levels of care.
  • Knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission, and state regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications.
