United States, Vermont, Bennington

Description
Department: Church Insurance

Job Type: Regular Full Time

Education Level: BA/BS or combination of education and experience

Required Years Experience: 8
For more than 90 years, The Church Insurance Companies (CIC) has focused on providing The Episcopal Church with broad, cost-effective property and casualty coverage, as well as unique risk management strategies and tools. This team takes a disciplined, financially sustainable, and hands-on approach.
The Senior Insurance Systems Product Owner is responsible for owning and optimizing CIC's core insurance systems and related applications end to end. This role serves as the primary strategic and operational bridge between CIC business partners, Information Services, and third-party vendors, ensuring that systems capabilities effectively support underwriting, policy administration, billing, claims, and reporting needs. This position requires hands-on experience with insurance policy administration systems and a strong working knowledge of core insurance operations; candidates without direct insurance systems experience are unlikely to succeed in this role.
The incumbent will act as lead Product Owner for multiple enterprise platforms, translating business strategy and operational needs into prioritized system enhancements, stable releases, and measurable outcomes. This role requires deep understanding of insurance operations, strong systems acumen, and the ability to independently drive delivery in a complex, regulated environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Systems & Product Ownership (Primary Focus)
  • Serve as Senior Product Owner for Majesco, ONEINC, LexisNexis, FIS, and ISO/Verisk platforms.
  • Own end-to-end lifecycle of system changes including intake, requirements definition, prioritization, testing, release validation, and post-release review.
  • Partner with Business Owners to influence product roadmaps, identify optimization opportunities, and align vendor delivery with CIC business priorities.
  • Proactively identify system risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities across underwriting, claims, billing, endorsements, and applied cash.
Vendor & Delivery Management
  • Act as CIC's senior liaison to BDO and other vendors, holding accountability for ticket quality, prioritization, and timely resolution.
  • Monitor vendor performance, manage escalations, and ensure deliverables meet both functional and operational expectations.
  • Participate in vendor governance and application review meetings as CIC's systems authority.
User Acceptance Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Lead and execute UAT for underwriting, policy, billing, and endorsement changes included in scheduled releases.
  • Define testing standards, validate business outcomes, and ensure releases are production-ready.
Business Enablement & Reporting
  • Partner closely with Underwriters, CIC Director, CUO, and functional leaders to design and deliver operational and ad hoc reporting.
  • Translate business questions into system logic and data outputs.
Documentation, Training & Change Enablement
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, reports, processes, and procedures.
  • Establish documentation standards and ensure materials are accessible, current, and audit-ready.
  • Identify training needs, develop support materials, and lead or coordinate training sessions for system changes.
Operational Support & Site Leadership
  • Serve as senior on-site systems resource for the Vermont office.
  • Coordinate technical support for meetings, audits, and key events (Zoom/Teams, conference room technology, equipment needs).
  • Provide escalation-level desktop and application support for complex or high-impact issues.
Leadership & Influence
  • Operate as a trusted advisor to business leadership on system capabilities, limitations, and tradeoffs.
  • Mentor junior staff or contractors as applicable.
  • Demonstrate ownership mentality and continuous improvement mindset.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven ability to operate independently in a complex, regulated insurance systems environment.
  • Strong understanding of policy administration systems, underwriting workflows, and insurance operations.
  • Exceptional ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and executable outcomes.
  • Excellent vendor management, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational demands.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in insurance systems, product ownership, business systems analysis, or related roles.
  • Prior experience serving as Product Owner or lead business systems resource strongly preferred.

Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
  • Flexibility for occasional after-hours availability to support releases or system issues.
