Description

The Surgical Technology Department at Potomac State College (WVU Keyser) is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator. Supports the Surgical Technology program by serving as clinical coordinator. Responsible for teaching, clinical site management, student placement and supervision, preceptor and faculty collaboration, compliance and accreditation, program evaluation and improvement. This is a part-time, in-person position requiring work both on campus and at local clinical affiliate hospitals and healthcare facilities.

What You'll Do

  • Teaching
    • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards
    • Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
    • Use a variety of teaching methods, simulations, demonstrations and technology to enhance learning.
    • Provide clear explanations of concepts and ensure student understanding
    • Maintain up to date knowledge of subject matter and educational best practices.
  • Clinical Site Management
    • Identify, evaluate, and establish/maintain clinical affiliations with healthcare facilities.
    • Secure and maintain current clinical affiliation agreements, ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation requirements.
    • Monitor and assess the quality of clinical sites to ensure they provide appropriate learning and diverse experiences for students.
  • Student Placement & Supervision
    • Coordinate student assignments to clinical sites, ensuring equitable distribution and alignment with program objectives.
    • Monitor student attendance and performance during clinical rotations, providing timely feedback and support.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between students, clinical sites, and program faculty, addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
  • Preceptor & Faculty Collaboration
    • Recruit, orient, and evaluate clinical preceptors, ensuring they meet the qualifications set by ARC/STSA and the program.
    • Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for preceptors to enhance the quality of clinical education.
    • Collaborate with program faculty to integrate clinical experiences with didactic learning, ensuring a cohesive educational experience.
  • Compliance & Accreditation
    • Ensure that all clinical activities adhere to ARC/STSA standards and other relevant regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clinical placements, evaluations, and student progress.
    • Assist in the preparation of accreditation reports and participate in site visits as required.
  • Program Evaluation & Improvement
    • Collect and analyze data related to clinical education outcomes, using this information to inform program improvements.
    • Participate in regular program assessments and contribute to the development of strategies for continuous improvement.
    • Facilitate feedback sessions with students, preceptors, and faculty to identify areas for enhancement in clinical education.
  • Administrative Support
    • Manage the scheduling of clinical rotations, ensuring alignment with academic calendars and program requirements.
    • Oversee the maintenance of clinical documentation, including student evaluations, competency assessments, and clinical logs.
    • Coordinate meetings and communication among stakeholders involved in clinical education.

Pay Grade: 16

Work Hours: 15 Hours per week

Appointment Length: 10 months

Qualifications
  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency; and
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience involving:
    • Documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess knowledge of the curriculum; and
  • Possess knowledge about the program's evaluation of student learning and performance.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with diverse students and staff
  • Computer skills with in-depth knowledge of using popular MS applications
