Position / Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Digital Experience is responsible for ensuring digital work is effectively prioritized, governed and executed across channels in alignment with institutional standards and user needs. The position requires strong operational judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to balance strategy, governance and delivery in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily design, functionality, and user experience of the college website by ensuring work is prioritized correctly, standards are applied consistently and the web team is supported in developing intuitive, accessible and effortless digital experiences that enable students and employees to succeed.

  • Ensure user-centered design principles and research insights are incorporated into digital experience decisions. Partners with design, UX and analytics leads to implement evidence-based improvements to enhance usability and user satisfaction.

  • Enhance the online visibility and organic search ranking of Dallas College's websites. Implement strategies to optimize website content, structure, and technical elements, aligning them with search engine algorithms and user intent. Play a key role in driving increased organic traffic and ensuring our digital presence effectively reaches our target audiences.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing activation, creative services, and communications to ensure the website reflects the brand's messaging, values, and offerings. Collaborate with developers and IT teams to ensure the website is technically sound, responsive, and secure, and address any technical issues promptly.

  • Works with stakeholders across the college to ensure the website and marketing platforms meet all federal, state, local and college guidelines, including accessibility of the college's website.

  • Translate the organization's long-term vision and goals into actionable priorities, operational models and plans. Ensure strategic goals are reflected consistently across the website and digital channels through alignment, governance and delivery.

  • Utilize data-driven insights and analytics to inform prioritization, evaluate outcomes and support effective decision-making processes across the organization's digital platforms.

  • Provide oversight and coordination of projects to ensure they're planned, prioritized and delivered effectively through established processes and shared accountability, and within the predetermined goals and objectives.

  • Through data analysis, collaboration with cross-functional teams and the implementation of best practices, drive continuous improvement initiatives that lead to sustained organizational growth and success. Streamline marketing operations, enhance efficiency and eliminate inefficiencies to reduce rework, repeated decision-making and achieve increased productivity, increased employee satisfaction and increased client satisfaction.

  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with internal clients. Responsibilities include being a key point of contact for clients, addressing their inquiries and concerns promptly, and ensuring exceptional customer service at all times.

  • Establishes and maintains clear decision frameworks, digital standards and escalation paths to ensure decisions are made at the appropriate level, documented when exceptions are required and applied consistently. Supports leaders in navigating ambiguity while reducing rework and repeated decision making.

  • Build and scale a world class Marketing and Communications capability. Instill best practices, ensure the right people are in the right roles, and inspire teams (both internal and external agency partners) to achieve what they never thought possible. Nurture and empower employees to reach their full potential within the organization. Identify individual strengths and areas for growth, create personalized development plans and provide coaching and mentorship to foster professional growth with the goal of contributing to the overall success and retention of top talent. Coaches leaders and teams to make informed, confident decisions within established guardrails, fostering accountability while supporting professional growth.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The following duties are required for People Leader roles specifically:

  • Exercises full discretion and decision-making authority in the recruitment, selection, hiring, mentoring, coaching, development & termination of staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, budgetary constraints, and workforce planning strategies.

  • Drive high performance by administering the performance management process timely, setting clear expectations, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing initiatives that enhance employee engagement, motivation, and retention.

Minimum and Preferred - Education, Experience, and/or Certifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Web Design, Marketing, Communications or related field, or equivalent related work experience. Official transcripts will be required.

  • Five (5) years of experience in web design, marketing, communications or related field or equivalent related work experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, timeline management, project management and personnel supervision.

  • Understanding of all traditional and non-traditional marketing media including broadcast, radio, digital, paid, and social media campaigns and how the college website supports the broader marketing initiatives.

Other Preferred Qualifications for Role (not mandatory, but advantageous)

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

  • Preference for candidates with experience in higher education or similar complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, multistakeholder environments while maintaining clarity and consistency.

  • Strong judgment and ability to enforce standards and processes with empathy and credibility.

  • Deep understanding and proficiency in HTML and CSS with at least a basic understanding of Javascript and front-end frameworks.

  • Proven experience in digital experience, web design, marketing, etc.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered web design techniques and strategies, online accessibility and current standards, principles of visual design, especially as it relates to web design and digital content, as well as information architecture and crafting user journeys

  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems and resolve issues.

  • Ability to see problems from a variety of angles and viewpoints.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, analyze market trends, and draw actionable insights.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and work with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proven ability to execute, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
