Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The UNCG School of Theatre's mission is to prepare students to be informed theatre practitioners with commitment to creativity, innovation, inclusion, and the advancement of the art form. We are dedicated to systemic change, offering workshops, continuing education, and professional development, theatrical intimacy, and enhancing our service to a diverse and intersectional student body. Our community seeks candidates who are invested in creating communities of practice and care in which access is paramount. We have 17 full-time, professionally active faculty members who serve over 300 students in BA and BFA concentrations and in MFA programs in Design, Musical Direction for Musical Theatre, and Theatre for Youth. The school mounts a yearly season of seven-to-eight plays and musicals, along with student-driven work and other types of performance opportunities. The School of Theatre is committed to creating and developing an engaged, artistically well-balanced body of future theatre professionals, performers, and teachers.
Position Summary
The School of Theatre at UNC Greensboro encourages applications from individuals with diverse perspectives and experiences who are dedicated to a collaborative environment in their teaching and professional/creative practice for full-time position (4/4) at the Lecturer rank beginning August 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin June 19, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching technique and repertoire courses to students in the areas of Ballet for Musical Theatre, Jazz for Musical Theatre, Tap for Musical Theatre, contemporary and traditional Musical Theatre styles.
  • Choreographing at least 1 mainstage musical in the school year.


Minimum Qualifications

  • We are looking for candidates with strong skills in collaboration and communication, as well as professional networks to help bridge classroom experiences and the profession.
  • Evidence of training in various dance techniques and choreographic styles relating to Musical Theatre (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Traditional Broadway Styles).

  • MFA or MA in either Dance, Musical Theatre, Direction or equivalent professional experience.
  • Professional experience as choreographer, dancer, or Musical Theatre performer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in directing.
  • Experience as a choreographer, dancer, or performer on Broadway, off-Broadway, or National Tours.
  • Experience teaching hip-hop.
  • One year teaching at the university level or professional equivalence.
  • Experience with inclusive teaching strategies (identity-conscious and culturally sensitive) at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience building musical theatre curricula that engage multiple perspectives, encourage critical inquiry, and expand opportunities for representation within the field.

Additionally, your teaching philosophy should address your expertise in Musical Theatre Dance History and repertoire, with a strong ability to contextualize, and teach choreography, stylistic nuance, and technique reflective of influential choreographers
