| Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
This position performs a variety of building environmental and housekeeping duties in a residential, office, and eventfocused environment. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floor surfaces; cleaning windows, walls, woodwork, light fixtures, and other interior surfaces; and exterior building projects. This position supports special projects, including event preparation, furniture movement, and periodic deep cleaning activities, using appropriate equipment and following safety guidelines. This role requires excellent customer service skills to effectively listen and respond to customer needs and to maintain good employee relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
This position is designated to provide housekeeping services at several off-campus University properties, including Kenan house and the Wise Alumni House. Kenan House is the Chancellor's residence, and the Housekeeper must interact effectively with family members, their personal guests, and with professional visitors. The Housekeeper will provide support at certain formal events/functions sponsored by the Chancellor, interacting in a professional manner with guests while ensuring that cleanliness and safe conditions are maintained. While fulfilling job responsibilities, the Housekeeper may become aware of confidential information and is expected to maintain the confidentiality of any such information.
The Lead Housekeeper performs a variety of duties that include the following responsibilities:
- Lead responsibilities in the absence of the Market Street Properties Manager - Will supervise housekeeping functions within the Market Street properties, primarily Kenan House, determine housekeeping requirements within this assigned area, and prepare work schedules and individual workloads.
- Special events clean up.
- Manages a daily building routine.
- Responds to customer complaints and fosters an effective working relationship with others in order to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
- Special projects.
- On-call coverage.
- Basic equipment maintenance.
Additional duties may include:
- Proficient with office equipment and systems such as KeyTrak, uShop, and AiM.
- Performs building inspections and reports deficiencies to manager weekly.
- Inventory collaboration with Facilities Store personnel to ensure proper levels of products for housekeeping closets are met to prevent shortage of products.
- Special events coverage including supervising staff on-hand and work assignments.
- Ensure that customer service issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Able to handle situations, know who to contact to resolve problems in absence of supervisor.
- Required to test all tools and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Knowledge of SDS safety information and ability to adhere to safety standards.
- Ensure proper disposal of trash utilizing proper PPE and in accordance with EH&S guidelines.
Designation of mandatory employee - This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist in the removal of snow, ice or debris, as required.
