Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The mission of the Fayetteville State University School of Nursing is to educate culturally competent, ethical, and caring nurses for a global society. The School is committed to educating graduates who will provide evidence-based and patient-centered care to promote the optimal health of clients throughout their lives and in various settings.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic support to program participants and to, improve academic performance, and prepare students for post-secondary education. The Academic Advisor provides appropriate needs assessments and academic advisement; conducts academic support workshops and financial aid workshops; assists with educational college tours and field trips and conducts workshops for parents and recruits potential participants for the program in a fast-paced environment.

This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work. Fayetteville State University employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree and
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Position requires the use of personal computers to complete duties; therefore, candidate must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Knowledge of the SCT Banner software. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; and must be able to manage a wide variety of records, files, and reports. The candidate must have personal and professional attributes to include punctuality, diligence, commitment, integrity, teamwork, and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned master's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in the degree program to which they are assigned.
  • Three to four years of experience as an Academic Advisor.
  • Proficiency in the use of the SCT Banner software (Banner Self-service and Native Banner); knowledge of AccuTrack software; and knowledge of Hobson's EMT Retain software.
