Position Summary

The North County Cancer Services Manager provides strategic, operational, administrative, and clinical leadership for North County oncology clinics and infusion centers, with 24/7 accountability for patient care delivery, staffing, quality, safety, and operational performance. This role oversees multiple sites, including Encinitas, Vista, Rancho Bernardo, and Murrieta, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered oncology services across ambulatory and infusion settings.

The Manager is responsible for the direct oversight of nursing staff, medical assistants, and clinic support personnel and is accountable for workforce planning, staff development, performance management, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship. The position promotes a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement while ensuring alignment with UC San Diego Health's mission, values, and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and operational oversight for multiple oncology clinics and infusion centers, ensuring safe, effective, timely, and patient-centered care delivery.
  • Maintains 24/7 accountability for staffing, patient care operations, quality outcomes, patient experience, regulatory compliance, and fiscal performance.
  • Leads recruitment, onboarding, competency validation, performance evaluations, coaching, employee engagement, succession planning, and corrective action processes for clinical and support staff.
  • Ensures staff maintain required competencies and facilitates ongoing education and training related to new therapies, technologies, policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices.
  • Oversees clinic and infusion center workflows to optimize patient access, throughput, resource utilization, operational efficiency, and service excellence.
  • Partners with physicians, nursing leadership, pharmacy leadership, and operational stakeholders to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance patient care and operational performance.
  • Leads quality improvement, patient safety, accreditation readiness, and regulatory compliance activities while promoting a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and management of annual operating, capital, and personnel budgets, ensuring responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Oversees the procurement, maintenance, and utilization of clinical equipment and supplies necessary to support safe and efficient patient care.
  • Provides visible leadership presence within clinical areas and offers direct support to staff and patients as needed to ensure smooth daily operations.

The Manager works collaboratively with the Medical Director, Clinic Operations Supervisor, Nursing Supervisors, Pharmacy Manager, Director of Nursing, and other organizational leaders to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and compassionate oncology care. The role requires strong independent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to effectively manage complex operational and clinical situations with minimal supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.

  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • BLS certification at the time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART certification within six (6) months of hire.

  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible healthcare experience, including at least five (5) years of recent oncology nursing experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership experience in a charge nurse, supervisor, manager, or equivalent role within an outpatient oncology and/or infusion services environment.

  • Demonstrated experience leading clinical operations, staff development, and performance management in ambulatory care settings.

  • Strong knowledge of oncology clinic and infusion center operations, including staffing, workflow optimization, patient access, and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience managing interdisciplinary teams and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, quality improvement methodologies, patient safety principles, and applicable healthcare regulations.

  • Effective problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead complex operations in a dynamic healthcare environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field.

  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Certification.

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification.

  • Experience leading multi-site oncology clinic and infusion center operations.

  • Experience with oncology care coordination and case management programs.

  • Experience with budget development, financial management, and operational planning.

  • Experience leading quality improvement, patient experience, and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Magnet-designated organization experience preferred.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $149,700 - $297,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $71.70 - $142.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
