Responsibilities

Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist reports directly to the Human Resources Manager and is responsible for coordinating a variety of human resources functions with an emphasis on leave administration, disability management, accommodations, compliance, and employee support. This role serves as a key resource for employees and leadership by ensuring adherence to federal and state employment laws, organizational policies, and HR best practices while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities Leave of Absence & Disability Administration
  • Administer and manage all aspects of leave of absence programs, including FMLA, workers' compensation, disability, military leave, and other applicable leave programs.
  • Evaluate leave eligibility and ensure accurate and timely processing of leave requests.
  • Coordinate leave administration to ensure compliance and proper concurrent management of workers' compensation and other leave programs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for employees and managers regarding leave policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with employees and leadership throughout the leave process.
  • Generate and manage leave-related documentation, correspondence, and status updates.
  • Process leave extensions and coordinate return-to-work releases and reintegration plans.
  • Track employee benefit premium payments during approved leaves of absence.
Accommodations & Compliance
  • Manage ADA accommodation requests and facilitate the interactive process with employees, leadership, and healthcare providers.
  • Ensure accommodation decisions are documented and compliant with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state employment regulations, including FMLA, ADAAA, USERRA, and related leave laws.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and recommend policy or process updates as needed.
HR Operations & Employee Support
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with departmental standards and legal requirements.
  • Prepare reports and analyze leave and accommodation trends to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and leaders regarding HR policies, procedures, and employee relations matters.
  • Assist with benefits administration and new hire orientation activities.
  • Perform additional HR duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of leave administration, disability management, ADA accommodations, and employment law compliance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational, case management, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in HR systems, reporting, and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with employees, managers, and external partners.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum three (3) years' experience in benefits related area.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred

Working Knowledge: Knowledge of employee benefits laws (health/welfare and retirement), including HIPAA, COBRA and ERISA. HRIS experience preferred.
