The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Position Summary
The technical and professional responsibilities associated with this position include all aspects of virologic, serologic, and molecular based diagnostics supporting both diagnostic investigation and research related to zoonotic diseases. Also included is the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure that all safety requirements are met. Precise records and regular written and telephone communications of activities are required. Assistance in planning and selection of diagnostic approaches related to research projects also will be required. Additional requirements are assisting with the supervision and training of undergraduate and summer student workers researching in or employed by the lab.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Laboratory experience related to working with viruses as well as traditional microbiological and molecular skills; previous experience in virology laboratory; previous experience with BSL-2 level laboratory work. Familiarity with the University of Georgia procurement and laboratory safety procedures is desirable
