Job Description

UMKC School of Pharmacy is looking for an individual with good communication skills and interest in student recruitment/outreach and admissions processing for pre-college and first-time college students from a variety of backgrounds. Candidates should have knowledge of and ability to build and maintain community partnerships, create educational college skills programming, career exploration and team building engagement activities, in addition to program marketing and promotional materials.

Successful candidates must be able to work as part of a team in an academic setting with good collaboration strategies, as well as have strong organizational, self-start initiative and follow-through skills in setting and meeting established deadlines and job requirements. Proficiency in professional writing and verbal communication skills for a variety of audiences, both large and small. Must have good public speaking and presentation skills. Knowledge of grant writing review and submission would be a plus.

Candidates must have experience with Microsoft Office and Google Office software and be prepared to learn other electronic admissions platforms. Video editing is a plus. The position requires the individual to be adaptable to a varying work schedule with some work on weekends, evenings and able to travel, on occasion.

POSITION ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

  • Seek out and participate in collaborative opportunities for programming and increased communication with UMKC Admissions Office and with pipeline programs on recruitment and retention for pre-college and college students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Develop and execute events and programming for students and groups that educate and provide activities in the promotion of pharmacy as a career option, college readiness skills, UMKC School of Pharmacy as a school choice, and pharmacy admission processes and preparation for applying as well as team building engagement of both prospective students.
  • Represent the School at student recruitment events.
  • Meet with prospective students/families regarding program and admission requirements.
  • Work in coordination with Pharmacy Office of Student Affairs (POSA) staff in the development/maintenance and launch of the annual pharmacy summer camps.
  • Cultivate and maintain contacts with specific high school and college counselors and science teachers, pipeline organizations & programs.
  • Possess knowledge of social media communication trends and best practices in the use of social media.
  • Write and design School of Pharmacy recruitment pieces and materials, in collaboration with POSA staff.
  • Be familiar with and provide insight to POSA staff regarding trends and attitudes related to pre-college and college students and admission to higher education.
  • Serve on School of Pharmacy and University Committees. Provide insight in the development of the admissions processes and on tracking mechanisms for key target groups.
  • Seek out opportunities to serve on boards or committees that assist and engage students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Track and report out annually outreach programming, recruitment initiatives, event plans/progress and trends related to admissions and recruitment; assess effectiveness of and make strategic changes as needed.
  • Promote and provide oversight and follow-up for applicants to the Pharmacy Assurance Program (PAP).
  • Assist with planning and promoting activities for currently enrolled PAP students to encourage socialization and engagement.
  • Possess knowledge of funding opportunities and revenue sources for outreach/recruitment and retention for special student populations as noted above.
  • Learn and navigate a variety of electronic admissions platforms.
  • Support and assist with all POSA seasonal events.
Shift

The position requires the individual to be adaptable to a varying work schedule with some work on weekends and evenings.

Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to various locations as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in student admissions/recruitment work, counseling/advising, and student activities programming
  • Knowledge of and work background in program marketing, public relations, communications and writing preferred
  • Experience with Slate and Peoplesoft
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $20.00 to $25.57 hourly.

This position IS eligible for a $1,000.00 hiring incentive. See HR-104 Hiring and Retention Incentives for more information.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
