DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on training mechanics to safely and effectively maintain diesel and construction equipment for PennDOT. Within this role, your responsibilities will involve developing lesson materials, providing technical instruction, and supporting field operations. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Technical Training: Teach proper and safe maintenance methods for department diesel and construction equipment
- Lesson Development: Create lesson plans, demonstrations, and instructional materials using computers and other training tools
- Mobile Instruction: Conduct field based mechanic training in districts and counties, inclusive of any necessary travel
- Field Support: Assist mechanics with technical repairs and provide guidance when needed
- Continuous Learning: Attend vendor and manufacturer trainings and apply new knowledge to department programs
- Classroom Leadership: Maintain a positive and professional learning environment that supports student success

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years as a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Six years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes four years of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or equivalent with the L restriction removed. This position also requires that the E or O restriction is removed from the Commercial Driver's License.
- All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- Successful candidate must complete equipment operator instructor training.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
