Overview The Tennessee Department of Human Services is announcing a vacancy for a DHS Vocational Trainer in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Area of Study. This position is housed within the Division of Rehabilitation Services and plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna. The DHS Vocational Trainer is instrumental in preparing TRC students for successful employment by delivering hands-on vocational instruction in a high-demand healthcare pathway. This position serves as an instructor, mentor, and guide for adult learners with a wide range of learning abilities as they work toward completing CNA training and preparing for the state certification exam and evaluation. The DHS Vocational Trainer develops curriculum, creates lesson plans aligned with industry and Board of Health standards, and fosters a supportive, structured classroom environment where students can build the technical and interpersonal skills essential for workplace success. This role also provides direct support during clinical experiences, ensuring students receive consistent guidance as they apply their training in real-world settings. The DHS Vocational Trainer position is central to expanding high-quality, hands-on training opportunities at the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center. By modeling professionalism, motivating students, and adapting instruction to meet individual needs, this role directly contributes to each students growth, confidence, and long-term employment success. Responsibilities Prepare and revise Certified Nurse Aide Area of Study curriculum based on industry standards and Board of Health requirements. Demonstrate effective instructional, classroom management, and active listening skills. Role model hard and soft skills essential to both the classroom and workplace. Motivate students to reach their greatest potential by creating a supportive and effective learning environment. Identify, and adapt individualized teaching methods suitable for the individual needs of students. Ensure students have the resources needed to succeed by obtaining the proper tools and equipment for learning from the appropriate sources. Give recommendations for tutoring to promote a better learning experience for the student. Monitor and analyze student achievement data to assist in modifying, planning, and delivering academic instruction. Obtain and maintain community partnerships.
