Department of Pharmacology & Cancer Biology is looking for a Research Associate, Senior to work alongside Dr. Michael Kastan in research projects.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
  • The appointee must have greater than 5 years of postdoctoral or equivalent training.

  • Onsite. The work is performed on-site or at a designated assignment location.

You will be involved in the department's research activities as follows:



  • Perform scientific experiments, including, but not limited to, the following techniques:


    • Mammalian cell culture
    • Cloning/subcloning/targeted mutagenesis
    • Protein assays, especially immunoblots and immunoprecipitations
    • RT-PCR and RNA analyses
    • Cell transfections and selections
    • Cell survival assays
    • Flow cytometry
    • Other cell/molecular biology techniques as appropriate


  • Partner with the PI in directing the scientific directions of the laboratory, including expectations to regularly read and interpret relevant scientific literature
  • General



    • Keep up with regulatory processes (animal, safety, radiation protocols, SOPs, etc)
    • Orienting and participating in oversight of laboratory members, including students, post-doctoral fellows and technicians
    • Maintaining personal laboratory records and ensuring lab records of other members is appropriate
    • Communicating regularly with the PI and laboratory members
    • Interface with other Duke scientists, including core laboratories
