The University of Arizona Athletics Department invites you to apply to the role of the Athletic Trainer. This is an opportunity to build upon and develop practical experience in athletic training and hone skills that play a critical role in the methodology of the Sphere of Influence. The successful candidate must be extremely driven, a self-starter, exceptionally organized and still present a self-effacing demeanor. This position will have the opportunity to work with other athletic trainers, weight room staff, psychologist, dietitian, and medical staff.

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and travel as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist with first aid and emergency care for student-athletes
    during practices and competitions.
  • Assist with injury management, and emergency care for acute
    injuries, ensuring the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Evaluate and treat athletic injuries and assist with injury prevention
    programs.
  • Assist the athletic trainers with daily treatment and
    rehabilitation of student-athletes to promote optimal recovery and functional
    restoration for injured student-athletes.
  • Assist with the coverage of the athletic training room; including the
    coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions.
  • Assist the athletic trainers with medical record keeping.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records, injury reports,
    treatment logs, and progress notes for student-athletes, adhering to HIPAA and
    regulations and institutional policies.
  • Budget accountability.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to operate office machinery (fax machines, computer, telephone, etc.).
  • Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and
    Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
  • Dedication and motivation to initiate, lead and support
    value-added projects.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of position related NCAA, Big 12, and University
    of Arizona rules and compliance.
  • Fosters a collaborative work environment through respectful and effective communication.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to
    plan, establish priorities and successfully manage multiple priority projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive
    interpersonal relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with
    individuals at all organizational levels, and project a positive, professional
    attitude.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and
    weekends and travel as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Employees are frequently required to lift/move/transport up to 40 lbs.
  • Outdoor Environment: Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather
    conditions.
  • Extreme cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for more than an hour.
  • Extreme heat: Temperatures typically above 100 degrees for more than an hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience is required.
  • Arizona Board of Athletic Training license required. Successful candidate will have 6 months from date of hire to obtain license.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in athletic training or related field.
  • Graduate from the NATA approved athletic training curriculum.
  • NATABOC certified.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
