Functioning as the Wellbeing Health & Safety (WHS) Ergonomics Specialist, the successful candidate will be working as part of a cross functional team responsible for providing technical support for new and current vehicle programs to proactively reduce musculoskeletal injuries and improve overall workplace well-being health and safety. The position will support new vehicle launch and assembly plants' current operations. In this role, you will utilize ergonomic requirements, assessment tools and data to identify risk factors and drive improvements with cross functional teams. Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills are required to drive actionable workplace improvements that support employee wellbeing and contribute to overall business performance. The successful candidate will report to the WHS Corporate Ergonomic Lead NA and be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Support product design and plant launch activities across programs/products in various stages of development and production with proactive ergonomic expertise and data driven problem solving to identify issues and actionable improvements.
- Drive optimization of worker interfaces using digital human modeling, physical assessments, ergonomic standards and analysis tools to identify ergonomic risks and drive resolution.
- Perform preliminary and secondary ergonomic evaluations to identify risk and recommendations to improve current and future workplace conditions.
- Conduct physical measurements of task (e.g. force gauge) to analyze adherence to the appropriate ergonomic requirements.
- Build relationships with plant Local Joint Health and Safety Committee (LJHSC) Ergonomic Specialist and cross functional teams, including Manufacturing, Product, Vehicle Process, WHS and Plant Production teams to problem solve and drive issue resolution.
- Manage documentation, recordkeeping, and timely communications related to issue tracking and resolution with key stakeholders.
- Comprehend injury/illness data, lessons learned and technical specifications to provide input into product and workplace design, planning and manufacturing initiatives.
- Support local union contractual agreements for coordination of activity, including Local Ergonomic Committee involvement, issue resolution and training as required.
- Participate and lead ergonomic innovation projects to drive improvements, reduce ergonomic risk and injuries, and improve overall wellbeing health and safety, as required.
- Support workplace design and productivity initiatives to ensure compliance with Stellantis Ergonomic Guidelines and best practices, as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree - major in ergonomics, human kinetics, kinesiology, human engineering or a related field required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in applying ergonomic principles and analyses in a manufacturing or academic setting, including 1+ years of experience using ergonomics analysis tools (e.g. digital human modeling, ergonomics assessment tools)
- Self-starter with proven problem-solving ability in fast paced, dynamic environments
- Knowledge and proficiency in primary and secondary ergonomic analysis tools and software (e.g. Siemens Process Simulate, Team center, Vis Mockup, NIOSH, Snook & Ciriello)
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, meet deadlines, and communicate solutions effectively
- Proficient in MS Office suite and/or other applications
- Strong analytical, technical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel (<30%) internationally and work on alternate shifts as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in ergonomics, human kinetics, kinesiology, human engineering or a related ergonomics field
- Advanced understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
- Perform virtual simulations with use of interactive technologies such as virtual reality, motion capture, Vision based assessment
- Experience working in UAW or other union environment
