Legal Data Scientist

Job Functions

  • Predictive Budgeting: Collaborate with practice group leaders to develop models that forecast matter costs and annual budgets with high precision.
  • Operational Scripting: Utilize Python and R to automate the collection and analysis of multiple types of data, helping the Firm identify cost-saving opportunities, efficiency gains, and ways to enhance work product.
  • AI-Driven Insights: Design and implement analytical tools to enhance a variety of operational issues and processes, including detection of spending patterns and budget variances, and providing proactive feedback to partners and internal team.
  • Strategic Reporting: Translate technical findings into clear, actionable reports and dashboards that help Firm leadership make informed business decisions.
  • Independent Project Management: Act as a proactive partner to the finance and legal teams, identifying areas where data can solve business challenges without needing constant oversight.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in data science, including advanced statistical modeling and complex data analysis. Experience working with financial data is preferred, and prior exposure to a professional services environment is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python and R, with demonstrated ability to apply these tools to solve business challenges, develop analytical models, and automate repetitive processes.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and the ability to translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Practical experience working with AI platforms and tools.
  • Proven track record of leading end-to-end solution delivery, including problem identification, solution design, implementation, and deployment, with measurable business impact and ongoing optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, showing initiative, curiosity, and ownership in exploring data and developing innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly and persuasively present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and foster collaboration across teams.
  • Commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and maintaining high standards of excellence and discretion expected in a premier law firm environment.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the salary range for this specific position at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to qualifications and experience, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
