As Principal Product Engineer for the Data Management and Microelectronics group, you will provide strategic technical leadership and architectural oversight across multiple product lines and programs within the Microsystems Aerospace portfolio, defining product engineering strategies, establishing best practices, and driving technical innovation across New Product Initiatives (NPI) and mature product sustainment activities. You will serve as the senior technical authority and thought leader, influencing business strategy, mentoring engineering teams, and establishing Mercury as a technical leader in defense-grade microelectronics. As a successful Principal Product Engineer, you will be recognized as a trusted advisor by executive leadership, customers, and industry partners, driving organizational capability development and fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and teamwork.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive product engineering strategy and roadmaps for advanced microelectronic and SMT assemblies across multiple product families, establishing architectural frameworks and technical standards for complex multi-die/chiplet systems, interposers, Ball-Grid-Array (BGA) substrates, printed-wiring-boards, packages, and advanced materials
  • Lead technology assessments and drive innovation initiatives that position Mercury at the forefront of defense microelectronics, making strategic recommendations on emerging technologies, processes, and capabilities that align with business objectives and customer needs
  • Serve as principal technical authority and senior customer-facing representative for strategic programs and key accounts, leading executive-level technical discussions, program reviews, and strategic planning sessions with customers and government stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop Product Engineers across all levels while leading cross-functional technical teams spanning engineering disciplines, operations, supply chain, and quality organizations
  • Architect and oversee the most complex NPI programs from concept through production, ensuring technical feasibility, manufacturability, and business viability while resolving the most challenging technical problems requiring deep expertise and cross-domain knowledge
  • Establish and optimize system-level trade spaces balancing performance, cost, schedule, producibility, yield, reliability, supportability, and strategic business objectives while driving advanced manufacturing process development and yield optimization strategies
  • Provide technical leadership for strategic programs with significant business impact, partnering with executive leadership on business strategy, capability development, and investment decisions
  • Lead proposal development and technical strategy for major business opportunities, managing technical risk across portfolios and developing mitigation strategies
  • Write and review critical technical documentation including specifications, standards, architectural documents, and technical strategies while establishing best practices for systems engineering, product lifecycle management, and configuration management
  • Influence organizational processes, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency, quality, and innovation while driving cultural transformation toward data-driven decision making, continuous improvement, and technical excellence

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline (Master's degree preferred)
  • Typically requires a minimum of 6+ years of relevant work experience in semiconductor and/or microelectronics with demonstrated progression of technical leadership and impact, including proven track record of leading complex, multi-disciplinary technical programs from concept to production
  • Deep expertise in advanced packaging technologies, heterogeneous integration, and multi-chiplet systems, along with expert knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes, yield optimization, and reliability engineering
  • Mastery of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, with advanced understanding of systems engineering principles across the entire product lifecycle and proven ability to architect complex systems
  • Expert-level technical writing and documentation skills with strategic program management capabilities including portfolio planning, resource allocation, and risk management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering talent at all levels with proven track record of influencing executive leadership and driving organizational change, along with exceptional communication skills to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences including executives, customers, and technical teams
